AMONG FRIENDS
with Robert Prater
It's been told that Charles Dickens, the celebrated English novelist, once made a tour of America. Having witnessed the American observance of Thanksgiving, he told an audience that Americans seem to have things backward. Instead of one day a year for Thanksgiving, he advised that we ought to have 364 days of Thanksgiving a year and reserve the one day left for all our griping and complaining!
I believe Dickens had a good idea. With God being the source of every wonderful gift and all blessings in our lives (James 1:17), truly one day a year is not enough to thank Him. We need to fill up the calendar with days of thanksgiving! Yet, it's also been said, "One day of thanksgiving followed by 364 days of disobedience and indifference is not right." We say "Thank you" to God not only by giving Him daily praise and adoration, but also by living faithful and obedient lives before Him. (See Mt. 5:16; Jn. 14:15, 1 Pt. 1:14-17)
This Thanksgiving week over 40 million people will be on the road, which I believe is a tribute to the love that families still have one for another. I hope and pray everybody enjoys a happy and safe time together with family and friends. Friends, Maggie and I want you to know as well just how thankful we are for you. You have blessed our lives and we are so thankful for each one of you. Have a great week.

The girls are having a Cookie Exchange on Saturday, November 28th at the Gettles house at 1 p.m. For more information contact Mary Gettle or Janet Stephens.
We will be taking the van to the Shawnee football game in Choctaw on Saturday. We will be leaving the building at 6:30 p.m., and return as soon as the game is over. If you have any questions contact me (Bob).
