AMONG FRIENDS
with Robert PraterI will begin this Sunday evening answering in a series of lessons the Bible questions that you as a congregation have submitted. Judging from last year's comments, this was a popular series. The question box will remain on the table in the foyer through Sunday for you to write down any Bible related questions, texts or topics that you would like to have answered in a Sunday evening sermon.
Sometimes what appears to be and what really is are two different things. Satan is an expert at pretending to be what he is not. Paul said, "And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness….." (2 Cor. 11:14-15 NAS) Jesus encourages us to judge not according to appearance but with righteous judgment. (John 7:24)
The Pharisees were experts at appearances. Jesus described their absurd practices like cleaning the outside of a cup, while leaving the inside filthy. (Matt. 23:25) He described them as whitewashed tombs filled with every kind of uncleanness on the inside. "Even so you too outwardly appear righteous to others, but within you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness." (Matt. 23:28)
The God of heaven, who knows the hearts of all men, easily sees through the mask and pretensions of humans. He is not impressed with the things that so easily impress people. (1 Sam. 16:7) God is not fooled by sin; we should not let it deceive or harden us either. --Robert-- (robprater@sbcglobal.net)
SERMONS FOR SUNDAY
AM - Misplaced Confidence (1 Cor. 10:12)

PRAYERS REQUESTED
Harold and Clydean Decker requested prayer recently that they might be more devoted Christians. It's been good to see them in worship since that time.
Also Janice Gardner has stated she needs your prayers "That I won't allow work, school, or being tired to keep me from church. I'm a fulltime college student and work fulltime. I struggle with fatigue. God bless this church. Love, Janice"
We deeply appreciate the sincere desire on the part of all three of these good people to be close to the Lord and their brethren. Our prayers are with them to be what they want to be.
VALENTINE BANQUET
We're going to have a Valentine banquet for all who wish to attend on Friday evening, February 16, at LaDonna's Grill in Meeker. The entire restaurant is reserved for us. The entrees range in price from $8.99 to $10.99 to which a 20% gratuity will be added. Drinks are extra. The entrée choices will be chicken fried steak, fried shrimp, and grilled chicken. There is a sign up sheet in the foyer. Please check which entrée you think you would like (it's not a binding commitment). We just want to give the restaurant an idea of what to expect. The vans will leave at 6:00 p.m. If you have questions, see Paula Harris or Cathy Pettyjohn.

HELP WRITE OUR HISTORY BOOK
One of the major things being done to commemorate our Centennial year is the writing of a book by Bob Seikel telling our history. We need to see any documents you may have regarding the history of Central. Bob and Charlotte have put in hundreds of hours researching our history which we greatly appreciate.
We are also requesting your suggestions for a TIME CAPSULE, which will be another project of our Centennial. We need you to suggest what should be placed in it. If you have a suggestion, please give it to Bob Seikel or call the office. Some of us think that Bob Bivins should be placed in the time capsule, but a few serious suggestions would also be helpful.
KEEPING UP
Bob Hardin, husband of the late Doris Hardin, and former member here, now lives at Hilltop Haven, room 109, P.O. Box 39, Gunter, TX 75058. He would enjoy hearing from you.
THANK YOU
To our Christian family, Thank each of you that assisted with getting Mother off the ice, loading her in her car, and getting her to ER. Thank you for the visits at the hospital, the flowers, cards, and especially for the prayers. Please continue to pray for a complete recovery. With love Elva, [Gill] & Barbara [Tucker]
Thank you so much for all the fruit, candy, and nuts. I am so very blessed to be a part of this church family. (Thanks to everybody who sent Christmas cards too.) With love, Verginia "Ginny" [Herrera}

Youth News
Bob StephensSaturday, we had a great opportunity to serve the brothers and sisters in Muskogee. The ice storm that visited us a couple of weekends ago slowed us down quite a bit here in Shawnee but it crippled Muskogee. On short notice, we got in the van Saturday morning and headed there not knowing exactly what to expect. We were sent to an elderly couple's property just south of town where we spent all of our time. With one chainsaw and a lot of muscle we were able to clean up a little over an acre of tree limbs that the ice had put on the ground. A GREAT BIG THANKS goes to Courtney, Wade and Pam Baskin, Jason Perry, Tracy Gettle and Scott Perry for giving up their Saturday to work very hard in very cold conditions (rain, then sleet, then snow, then rain again etc…..!!) We returned with cold, wet feet and hands but with warm hearts!
This Sunday we are attending the AWTG at Westside in Norman. We will be leaving from the building after morning worship. In conjunction with the AWTG we will be attending the OU Women's basketball game. We plan to eat lunch out before the game so be sure to bring lunch money along with the $4.00 for the game. We should be returning home by about 8:00. If you have any questions, ask me.
