Bulletin for Sunday 09/21/2003

OUR GOSPEL MEETING

Our fall gospel meeting with brother Ted Kell began in a fine way this past Sunday. At this point it's just begun, but by the time you receive the Gospel Guide, it will be history. Brother Kell is an outstanding proclaimer of God's Word, and there have been large numbers of members and visitors in attendance for each service. We appreciate all each one of you has done to make this effort a success.

WARMTH FROM THE HEART

The first of three planed Warmth from the Heart coat distributions will take place on Saturday, October 11th, which is less than a month away! A workday has been scheduled for Saturday, September 20 at 9 a.m. to clean up the Outreach Center house inside and out to prepare for the giveaway.

If you are planning to be there to help, please bring some cleaning supplies with you (paper towels, cleansers, mops, brooms, vacuums, etc). If you are going to help with the outside work, bring yard tools, including mowers. Please let Ron or Debbie Taffe know if you can join the fun and fellowship!

To date only seven people have signed up to serve on the giveaway day, and this is just not enough! If you want to do your part and have forgotten to sign up, please do so today in the foyer or let Ron or Debbie know so they can add you to the list. If we don't have enough volunteers for this week, each of you may be contacted to join the effort. The giveaway assistance teams need to be assembled by September 28, and those teams will attend a short training class the following week.

COATS NEEDED AT THIS TIME: Ladies 1,2,3 X, junior high to high school girls and boys, and adult size blankets.

Ron & Debbie Taffe

Central is always well represented at this annual event.

LADIES CLASS RESUMES

The ladies will be meeting in the fellowship room at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 24, to continue their study of the book of Proverbs. The first luncheon will be the following week, October 1, when the class will meet at 10:30 a.m., and the luncheon will follow. We urge all the ladies who can to participate in this good time together.

THANK YOU

I want to express my thanks to all, especially brother Dwyane Dennis for your gracious Christian ministry to my brother, Alvin Littleton, and his family during his many illnesses and funeral. Your many visits through the years brightened his world. Some of you brought home cooked food which was a treat to him. Others provided transportation for medical appointments when I was unable to take him. Brother Dennis and/or brother Sullivan were always there when he went through his many surgeries and serious illnesses. The dinner provided by the church for the family the day of the funeral was excellent and deeply appreciated by all of us. Proverbs 24:11 tells us that " a word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver." The funeral service conducted by brother Dennis was uniquely beautiful and comforting. His sensitivity and command of delivery are unequaled. I have had several people request copies of the sermon. I hope God allowed Alvin to witness the service. I'm sure he loved it." Sincerely,

Ruth Reese Kaler

Dear Central Family,

Words seem so inadequate to express our thanks for all the prayers, cards, and visits plus the kindness shown to Jim and myself during my surgery and recuperation. You are so special to us. God bless you all, Jim & Vivian Cross

PRAYER CONCERNS

We received word Monday that Harvey Moore received a good report at M.D. Anderson. The tumor is still shrinking. Harvey and Carletta should be back in Shawnee in a few more days. Doris Whittern broke her hip in a fall on Wednesday of last week and had hip replacement surgery at Unity North the following day. She was transferred to Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation Hospital on Monday of this week. C.F. Drain had surgery on a carotid artery at Unity North on Thursday of last week and returned home on Friday. David Sperry is at a very low ebb in his struggle with cancer. Fred Phillips spent two days at Unity North and Baptist Medical Center with an apparent heart attack. He does have some health concerns, but we are happy to report it has been confirmed that the problem was not a heart attack. After almost a year, April Nowlin (Dennis's seven year old granddaughter) had her final chemotherapy treatment this week. At this point in time, her body appears to be totally free of cancer. Rejoice with us! It was great seeing Bob Bivins, Vivian Cross, and Marcia Dennis all able to be back in worship this past Sunday.
