Bulletin for Sunday 10/24/2004

AMONG FRIENDS

with Robert Prater

In Matthew 25:36 Jesus said, "I needed clothes and you clothed me………." Jesus also went on to say, "…….I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." (Matthew 25:40) Some of the least in our community, the poor and needy, will be cold (and hungry) in the months to come. As people of God, we can and should actively help those who are in need. We have been given a wonderful opportunity to share our abundant blessings with the less fortunate. The upcoming Warmth from the Heart coat distribution is scheduled for Saturday, October 30th. There is a signup sheet for volunteers in the foyer for those interested in participating in this good work. Friends, far be it from any of us to say to our neighbors "be warmed and filled" and then send them on their way cold and hungry. Ron and Debbie Taffe are doing an excellent job heading up this effort. They have invested much time and energy in the work. Thank you for contributing to such a great cause. It is truly more blessed to give than to receive. (Acts 20:35)

Brethren, let's never lose sight of the purpose of all our work and labor in the kingdom - to bring souls to Christ. We want to reach out to this community and the world, with the saving gospel of Jesus Christ. Invite your neighbors, relatives and friends to hear the gospel preached. Ask them if they would like to study the Bible with you. If we stay focused on bringing lost souls to Jesus, everything else will work out to God's glory!

This coming Sunday, I look forward to being out of the pulpit and getting to hear Dwyane preach. He will be preaching on the fourth Sunday of each month on a regular basis. This congregation is so very blessed to have him as one of the ministers. I'm so thankful to have been given the opportunity to work with him as a fellow servant in the kingdom of God. I'm grateful for all that he has done and will continue to do for the Lord and this congregation. Friends, it is grand to be a Christian and it is great to be a member of the Lord's church here at Central.

FOURTH SUNDAY PREACHING

The elders have very kindly invited me to preach at both services on the fourth Sunday of each month. I appreciate their thoughtfulness, and I especially appreciate Robert Prater for his willingness to share some of his time. He's getting off to a great start. - - WDD

THANK YOU

Dear Church Family, Thank you for your very generous donation ($1,000) to the hurricane relief fund in Florida. Many families received help as a result of donations like yours. May God bless you richly for giving. In Christian love,

Central Church of Christ, Sarasota, FL

PRAYER CONCERNS

We are not aware of any Central members in the hospital as the Gospel Guide is prepared.
Frank Romberg's nephew, John Tidwell, had emergency surgery Sunday evening for a tear of the aorta in his heart. An artificial valve was implanted, and he is doing well at St. Anthony Hospital.
Harold Gober, father of Angie K. Gober and Kevin Gober, is now home after a kidney transplant and is doing well.
It was good seeing Ethel Fast able to be in worship services Sunday morning.

YOUTH NEWS
Bob Stephens

We have enjoyed lots of kids in Children's Bible Hour since we started back up in September. If you've noticed some of our teens coming into worship a little late, it's because they have been helping in Bible Hour. We always try hard to get them into the auditorium as soon as possible so they don't miss worship. They are a great asset to us in so many ways. Thanks teens!

Everyone mark your calendars! The hayride and cookout is November 12 at the usual place (our pasture!) Everyone is welcome to come, just bring lawn chairs, hotdogs and buns. We'll have more info in the next couple of weeks.

"The little troubles and worries of life may be as stumbling blocks
in our way, or we may make them stepping-stones to a nobler character
and to Heaven. Troubles are often the tools by which God fashions
us for better things."
