SYMPATHY

We extend our heartfelt sympathy to DeLila Nelson in the loss of her brother, James Fowler Cooper of Meeker on Tuesday of last week. Funeral services were conducted at Resthaven Funeral Chapel the following Friday. We regret that we failed to become aware of this illness and loss sooner than we did.

CONGRATULATIONS

We extend our best wishes to Tara Kelly and Jason Hicks who were united in marriage in Jenks this past Saturday afternoon.

VBS MEETING

There will be a meeting of all involved in this year's Vacation Bible School on Sunday afternoon at 4 in the fellowship room.

CORPORATE MEETING

In compliance with state statues, the members at Central Church of Christ will hold their annual meeting immediately following the Sunday evening worship service, May 22, in the fellowship room.

MONTHLY SINGING CLASS

The monthly song class will meet in the fellowship room Sunday evening immediately following the very brief corporate meeting.

AMONG FRIENDS
with Robert Prater

The last month of the school year means that preparations are beginning to move fast and furious for the events of summer. That means Burnt Cabin Camp and Vacation Bible School are just around the corner. Speaking of camp, the date is June 12-18 - just three weeks from Sunday! If you have not turned in your application, I want to especially encourage you to do so. As many of you know, Marty Kessler, who is the preacher at the Choctaw Church of Christ, and myself tag team and co-direct this week of camp at Burnt Cabin. It is for young people ages 9-18. Burnt Cabin is a wonderful place to spend a week of your life. We want to encourage all of our members from Central to encourage their children, grandchildren and their friends to consider attending this week of camp. This week spent in fellowship with other youth and studying God's Word on a daily basis is a tremendous opportunity for them to stretch and grow in their faith. We have an excellent staff which includes some of our own members here at Central who help serve as counselors during the week. (Myself and Maggie Prater, Bob and Janet Stephens, Steve and Mary Kelly and Mary Gettle). One last note about camp. If any families or children need help with financial assistance, please let me know as soon as possible. We will work to help ensure that cost is not a reason for any child not attending camp who wants to otherwise.

Concerning Vacation Bible School, don't forget about the VBS Meeting planned for this Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Fellowship room. This meeting is for all those who will be helping to work in teaching, story telling, crafts, decorating, registration, puppets, games and refreshments. It's also hard to imagine that we are now less than eight weeks away from our VBS on July 11-15. This year our theme for VBS is Bible Safari - "Where Kids Are Wild About God" with emphasis being on our relationship with God. I have always believed that one of the greatest ministries in the Lord's church is VBS. We have so many opportunities that can open up through this outreach effort.

Of course, we always need to remember that our goal and intention is not just to be busy. Our purpose is to praise and glorify God and His Son Jesus in all we do. (1 Cor. 10:31) We want to spread the saving gospel of Christ and to advance His kingdom; always shining as lights in a world darkened by sin. May the Lord our God bless us as we continue to serve Him. robprater@sbcglobal.net

PRAYER CONCERNS

Wendell LaViness became suddenly ill just before worship began Sunday morning. Emergency assistance was called, and he was feeling better in room 317 at Unity Health Center at the beginning of the week.
Horace Roberts remains seriously ill at home under Hospice care. Visits and calls are appreciated but should not be made during their rest time between the hours of 1 and 4 p.m. It would be best to call before dropping by.
Martha Chaffin has asked for prayers for her daughter, Christina Best, who lives in Missouri. Christina is undergoing tests to determine why she is having difficulty in walking. She hopes to know more by May 24. Martha has gone to help and will be there about a month.
Dwyane Dennis is scheduled for outpatient surgery on Tuesday morning at Southwest Medical Center.
Harvey Moore will be seeing his doctor for a check up on May 23 at M.D. Anderson in Houston.
It's been good seeing Buddy Truesdell and Sue Riedel back in worship.

Youth News
Bob Stephens

Congratulations to the Shawnee Track Team. They won state this past weekend in Ardmore. We have several teens who helped contribute to the teams accomplishments this year. Courtney Baskin, Austin Beard, Sean Parman and Ryan Parman all were members of the track team. Good job guys and girl!

Chris Nipper, Matt Stephens and Andy Stephens worked towards a good cause last Friday. They all volunteered to help in the Tecumseh Relay for Life. Matt and Andy helped with setting up for the event and worked in a food booth while Chris collected donations from attendees at the event. Matt and Andy have decided that perhaps the fast food industry isn't for them. Chris worked the crowd well for donations and he and his FFA group participated in the relay. Good job fellas!

Just another reminder to the teens! Get those camp applications in ASAP! Camp is just about four weeks away and time is getting short. If you are still contemplating whether or not to attend, talk to anyone who has been. I know if you give it a chance it will change your life. Our week at camp is fun, but more important than that, the Bible classes, devos will bring you closer to God. And new friends you will make will last you a lifetime. If you need more info about camp you can visit with me and Janet, Steve and Mary or Robert and Maggie.
