Bulletin for Sunday 06/19/2005

AMONG FRIENDS

with Robert Prater

There is a true story of a youngster who figured out a puzzle. Some years ago a little boy slipped up beside his father as he was reading the daily paper. The little boy had something he wanted to talk about. His daddy wanted to be rid of him, so he dug up an old map of the world, cut it up in little pieces like a puzzle and said, "Here son, put this map together and then come back and talk to me." He thought he'd have the paper done by then. But in a few minutes the little boy came back. He had the map all together perfectly. The father said, "Son, how did a little fellow like you know how to put the world together like that?" The reply? "Well, Daddy, there was a picture of a man on the back, and when I put the man together properly I found the whole world came out right!

Our world is fragmented by all sorts of problems, many of which would disappear if Jesus truly reigned in the hearts of men. We as individuals are constantly faced with life's problems. It would be much easier for us if we imitated the little boy by flipping the puzzle over and putting Jesus back together in our lives. When we do this we find that our world comes back together again. This was the basic idea of Jesus' message when He told His disciples, "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be given to you." (Matthew 6:33) The Hebrew writer tells us that we are to, "fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith….." (Hebrews 12:2 NAS) Our greatest mistake many times is in trying to deal with symptoms rather than the real cause. Are we forgetting what it is all about? The greatest problem in the world and in the church of our Lord today is people losing sight of Jesus Christ. This is our most urgent, crying need. Again, the Hebrew writer admonishes us to, "consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself….." Why? The writer continues, "so that you will not grow weary and lost heart." (Hebrews 12:3) we all need to focus and see Jesus more constantly! It'll make the difference in our spiritual lives! May God bless you all richly in Jesus Christ! robprater@sbcglobal.net

APPOINTMENT OF
ADDITIONAL LEADERSHIP

The appointment of additional men you have chosen as deacons and elders here at Central will be this coming Sunday, June 19. This will be a most significant day for our congregation. It will have a profound influence on our future. Not only that, the way each one of us works with the men in our leadership will determine our future. Plan to be here with your support Sunday and for the future to come. Keep in mind that we will not follow the usual order of worship. This Sunday only the Lord's Supper will be served after the second song.

SYMPATHY

We extend our sympathy to Mike Finley and Glenna Danicley on the unexpected passing away of their son, Eric Finley, this past Friday in Tulsa. A memorial service was conducted Sunday afternoon at Walker Funeral Chapel. Eric was also the grandson of Melrose Finley Kotts.

CONGRATULATIONS

We extend our best wishes to Frank and Rita Romberg on the birth of a new grandson in Tennessee on Thursday morning of last week. Grant Colton Romberg weighed ten pounds, five ounces and was 21 inches long. Stephen and Amy Romberg are the parents.

THANK YOU

Thank you all so very much for everything... the visits, cards, calls, thoughts, and especially the prayers!

Sandra Birdwell (daughter of James & Ellen Childers)
