Bulletin for Sunday 06/26/2005

AMONG FRIENDS
with Robert Prater

Sunday morning was truly a momentous occasion in the history of the Central Church of Christ. Bob Perry and Jim Pettyjohn were ordained as God's shepherds. These two men join Paul Harris, Steve Kelly, Gene Norton, and Robert Perry in leading God's spiritual sheep here at Central. How blessed we are to have six godly elders who are willing to assume the oversight of our souls! Pray for these men. Follow their faith. Be in submission to their leadership. Encourage them. Love and respect them. I'm so proud to be a part of the Central family. It is with great anticipation that I look forward to working with them and continuing to move forward together in the work here at Central. I am willingly submitting my family, and my soul, to their watchful care. Will you join me in doing the same?

After Bob and Jim were ordained as elders, five men were installed as deacons. Dale Beard, Scott Perry, Frank Romberg, Ron Taffe, and Buddy Truesdell will now join our current deacons as special servants of God. Since service must be a quality of every Christian, it is not surprising that the Lord made a provision for official servants in the church. A deacon is an exemplary servant of God. These eleven men have proven their love and service to God. They have been appointed to a position of trust and service. Give each of these men your prayers, love, support, and encouragement.

Friends, may we all here at Central respect and honor these men who make great sacrifices for our spiritual well-being and for the better advancement of this congregation. Also, please don't forget their wives and children who also make sacrifices to allow their husbands and fathers to lead and work among God's spiritual family here at Central.

SYMPATHY

A former member of Central, Anna Wilsie, passed away last Monday in the Maud Nursing Home. She had been there only a few days, but had been under Hospice care for the past year. Services were held at Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh on Friday afternoon.

MEET OUR NEW ELDERS

Bob Perry was born January 24, 1960 in Ada. He was baptized in August of 1972 by his father, Robert Perry, in Wanette. Bob graduated from Shawnee High School in 1978 and then graduated from Oklahoma Christian University in 1982 with a degree in marketing. He received his Masters in education from East Central University in 2001. Bob married Louise Dickson on September 11, 1982 in Chandler. They have two children: Lindsey, 20 a sophomore at Oklahoma Christian University and Jason, 17 a junior at Shawnee High School. Louise is a dental hygienist for her brother in Chandler. She has taught Bible school from the day she married Bob and has enjoyed helping Bob with the teens. Bob has worked for Perry and McGee, and for the last number of years has held various positions at Gordon Cooper Technology Center. He is presently the Assistant Superintendent of Business and Industry Services. Bob enjoys teaching and preaching, much of it at Chandler and Earlsboro. He has enjoyed teaching teens and most of the kids' activities before Bob Stephens's arrival. His hobby is golf, and he is the son of Robert and Ann Perry.

Jim Pettyjohn was born November 8, 1940, in Denver, Colorado. He was baptized into Christ at East Main in the spring of 1953 by brother Carl Wills. He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1959. He attended college at OBU and participated in numerous educational programs provided by Southwestern Bell. Jim married Cathy Cook in Fort Smith, Arkansas on June 4, 1959. Cathy enjoys visitation and singing. She has had a special interest in the nursery and also has a very special interest in the needs of the elderly. Jim and Cathy have two adult children: Misty who lives in McLoud and worships at Newalla, and Monty who serves as a minister in Plano, Texas. Jim and Cathy have four grandchildren. Jim worked as an outside plant engineer for Southwestern Bell until his retirement. He did contract work after that for about ten more years. Jim enjoys visitation work and has taught a junior high school class for a number of years. He enjoys working with the elderly and is interested in the membership welfare of all ages. Jim's hobbies are woodworking, fishing, reading, and grandchildren.

Youth News

Bob Stephens

What a blessing it was to spend a week with 139 campers at Burnt Cabin. The week was spent in Bible Study, Devotion to God and fun. We had 19 kids from Central attend camp this year, and I think we would all go right back again if given the chance (well, most of us would). We can always count on our kids to be the model of Christian behavior and this year was no exception. There were 10 baptisms while at camp last week and one after our return home Saturday. Sean Parman put his Lord on in baptism Saturday afternoon. We are very proud of Sean for making the decision to follow Christ with all his heart.

Here's a list of our kids that went and some accomplishments for the week:

Alisha Myrick, Paige Vanlandingham, Mariah Bollinger, Wade Baskin, Bryce Dean, Molly Gettle, Jaclyn Morgan, Crystal Gray, Tanner Bourne, Marla Miller, Mikah Bourne, Courtney Baskin, Leslie Gettle, Matt Stephens, Andy Stephens, Nathan Kelly, Sean Parman, Jason Perry and Austin Beard.

Sweepstakes - Bible Bowl, Memory Work & Crazy Olympics: Marla, Jaclyn

All Star Softball Team: Matt, Sean & Leslie

All Star Volleyball: Andy, Jason & Mariah

Male Sportsmanship Award: Matt & Andy

Outstanding Intermediate Girl Camper: Molly

Jr. Boy's Camp Prince: Wade

Along with 19 campers, we had a handful of Counselors go last week as well. They are: Steve and Mary Kelly, Amy Kelly, Robert & Maggie Prater, Mary Gettle and myself & Janet. Thank you for all the hard work put into making last week so spiritually uplifting to all who went. Also thank you to those that helped send campers this year. What a great investment!

Central is hosting an Area Wide Teen Gathering on Tuesday, July 5. Rob will be speaking to the teens on the subject "Who Will be in Heaven". Even though it's a "teen thing", everyone is invited. We plan to serve watermelon afterwards so we need your help! If you can supply us with a watermelon, bring it Sunday, July 3rd and put it in the kitchen. Thank you in advance for your help!
