Bulletin for Sunday 07/17/2005

We rejoice with Crystal Gray who was baptized into Christ on Wednesday evening, July 6. Crystal has attended with our youth group for a number of weeks. She is a very sincere young lady, and we are happy for her decision.

This past Sunday evening, Zach Qualls requested prayer in behalf of his family and especially for his brother, Zane, who will soon be spending some time in the Middle East.

We extend our sincere sympathy to Vonda Merrill and Ann Bivins in the loss of their brother, Delbert Knight, of Stratford on Monday evening, June 27. Funeral services were conducted the following Thursday at Pickard Funeral Chapel in Stratford.

Betty Martin is now living at Colonial Estates, room 24. At the time of bulletin preparation she was in St. Anthony Hospital in preparation for dialysis.
Carl Worley has been transferred from Norman to the Veterans Center in Talihina on Highway 63 A. His address is P.O. Box 1168, Talihina, OK 74571. Carl is 94 years old, blind, and a little hard of hearing. He has been a favorite of all the staff in Norman and is greatly missed there.
Clydean Decker was scheduled to have an arteriogram at Unity Health Center on Wednesday of this week.
Tracy Gettle's father, Jack Gettle, has recently been diagnosed with cancer. Further evaluation is being done this week. Your prayers are requested.
Martha Chaffin has gone to Webb City, Missouri to be with her daughter, Christine Best, who has been diagnosed with bone cancer. Christine is also the sister of Verna Burton.
James and Ellen Childers have several family members who are ill at this time. Their son, James Melvin Childers, had a kidney removed at Midwest Regional Hospital on Monday. Their daughter, Jama Prucha, is in Bone and Joint Hospital. Their daughter, Sandra Birdwell, is doing well with daily radiation treatments. Ellen's brother, B.D. Lairson, is in St. Anthony Hospital with pneumonia. Your prayers are requested for all of these.

We extend our congratulations to Bob Seikel on the publication of his new book, "Honor Roll". This is a book on the men of Dale High School who served in WWII. Bob is a graduate of Dale and an enthusiastic historian.

It isn't too early to begin thinking about our coat giveaways coming up in the fall. We need to be getting ready right now. When you are out and about at the garage sales, please keep our need for good coats in mind, especially for children.

Pauline Adams has moved to 1308 E. Bradley, Shawnee, 74804. Her telephone number remains the same.

You are invited to attend a wedding shower for Misti McClendon and Adam Beard on Sunday afternoon, July 17, at 2 p.m. in the fellowship room. If you would like to participate in a group gift, please see Paula Harris, Mary Kelly or Rita Romberg.

Dale Beard was born August 15, 1961 in Cushing. He was baptized in April, 1971 in Hobart by his father, Eddie Beard. Dale graduated from Anadarko High School in 1979. He graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1983 and from the Oklahoma City University Law School in 1991. Dale married Denise Bonds on July 24, 1981 in Sayre. They have three sons, Adam, Austin, and Chad. Dale has worked for Finley and Cook and as a vice president for American National Bank. He has been the Small Business Coordinator at Gordon Cooper Technology Center and, since 2001, has been associated with Boettcher, Boettcher, and Lobaugh in Ponca City. Denise enjoys teaching in the nursery and other grades below kindergarten. Dale has served this congregation well as a deacon in the past, and we are happy he is in a position to resume that office. He is one of our very capable song leaders. He selects the men to lead in our worship each Sunday. He enjoys teaching the College & 20 Something Class. Dale's hobbies are fishing and camping.

Scott Perry was born December 21, 1968 in Wichita, Kansas. He was baptized by his father, Robert Perry, at Central in the summer of 1982. He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1987 and attended Oklahoma Christian University. He married Tammie Cross on June 5, 1993. Scott and Tammie have two daughters, Brianna and Emily. Tammie's heart is in teaching the 2/s and 3/s class. Scott worked for the family business of Perry and McGee and has been with SBC for the last five years. Scott is probably the handiest man in the congregation. He's not afraid to change the light bulbs in the auditorium and is the first one we call when our sign needs attention. Scott likes to be involved with the teens and helps plan activities for the young married group. He works with our scripture readers at each service. He is the son of Robert and Ann Perry. His hobbies are building projects, the lake and anything outside.

Frank Romberg was born June 28, 1942 in Shawnee. He was baptized by Richard Black at Central in August of 1973. He graduated from Earlsboro High School in 1959 and married Rita Ott on September 14, 1968. Frank and Rita have two adult sons, Stephen and Jarred. They have two grandsons. Rita enjoys working with the youth, the nursery, and especially helping Bob and Janet Stephens with the kids. Frank organizes our worship services, making sure all the bases are covered. He also helps with the kids and is in charge of counting the contribution. Frank has been the store manager of James Supplies for the past twelve years. His hobbies are fishing and going to see the grandkids.

Youth News

Last Tuesday night we hosted the Area Wide Teen Gathering. There were 127 people here to worship and praise God together. I would like to thank all those who brought watermelons and those who helped serve it. That was a hit! Thanks to Austin Beard, Nathan Kelly, Adam Beard, Matt Stephens and Andy Stephens who all directed us in worship. And thank you to Robert Prater for speaking to us on "Who will be in Heaven".
