Bulletin for Sunday 09/04/2005

with Robert Prater

In the June issue of this year's Gospel Advocate, back page editor, Charles Hodge wrote, "Never has the church had more activities and never has the church done less. No Bible, no doctrine, no conversions, no baptisms." Sadly, this is true of too many of the congregations of the Lord's church. The church of Jesus Christ must be built on the solid foundation of God's Word. We must never be into games and gimmicks, but be fully devoted to preaching and teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world. I hope and pray that we here at Central will continue to improve in the area outreach. We must be a soul winning church. We must strive to keep the ministry of seeking and saving the lost at the heart of our work for the Lord in Shawnee. We must strengthen our efforts to be servants of Christ who work joyfully in an effort to win the lost and build up the saved. Now I believe there are two upcoming opportunities and works which have tremendous potential to reach out and save souls and encourage the saints.

The first is our House to House/Heart to Heart (HTH) publication. On Tuesday of this week we mailed out the latest issue of HTH. This very attractive eight-page teaching pamphlet is mailed out every eight weeks to every household in Shawnee in the 74801 zip code and a few of the 74804 routes. Please keep on talking to your friends and neighbors about this paper! I am personally so thankful to former postal worker James Reeves for all the help he gives me in the preparation work. We are also greatly indebted and appreciate those special helpers who regularly work with us at labeling addresses on these before mailing. These workers include: Joan Reeves, John and Beverly Aylor, Jim and Cathy Pettyjohn, Geoff and Carolyn Root, Betty Emery, and Kathryn Shields. Chuck and Nona Carter, Linda Carpenter, Sarah Epley and Louise Dixson have also helped before in the past.

The second opportunity is our upcoming Gospel Meeting with Ted Kell on September 18-21. You will enjoy these Bible-filled lessons. We will be blessed by this great time of fellowship in the Word. There are now plenty of HTH brochures, which on the back page, we are using to advertise our meeting. These are on the table in the foyer for you to give away and mail to others. Please be praying for the success of this meeting and plan now to attend each night. You won't want to miss it! Friends, efforts like our HTH and our Gospel Meeting gives everyone a great opportunity and "open door" with our family, friends, and neighbors to hear the gospel. Please continue to lift up all of this before our Heavenly Father as we strive to reach out to this community with the gospel.

The Tipton Home truck will be in our area around September 19 - 22 to pick up any supplies you may wish to contribute (there is a barrel for this in the foyer). Dear Central Church of Christ family,

Thank you so much for the wonderful lunch last Saturday after we buried my father. Your kind expressions of sympathy and loving support are greatly appreciated. I know that my parents - both Charles and Jean - treasured the friendships and love they received during the long years of their worship at Tenth & Bell and especially during their illnesses in later times. Carol McClintock and I are truly grateful to you.

Sincerely, Susan Snyder

We have received a thank you note from Yuavonda Sperry in behalf of the Wendell LaViness family for all the kindnesses shown to them at the time of Wendell's loss.

Youth News
Bob Stephens

Last week I mentioned our newest members of the Central Youth Group to you. I failed to mention all of them. Sorry about that! Maria Bollinger is another one of our newcomers to the group this year. Maria is the daughter of Vince and LaDonna Vanlandingham. She is a sixth grader in Seminole. Maria has been to Burnt Cabin with us the last two summers and will be a great addition to our youth group this year and many to come. Welcome to the group Maria!

Last Wednesday evening the kids in the youth class wrote down a list of school stuff they're doing this year, and boy do some of these kids stay busy! However, most of them didn't have a clue when any of their stuff was going on! Parents, if you have a schedule of events (football games, band contests, meets, etc.) please get me a copy of it so we can make plans to bring the rest of the group to cheer them on.
