Bulletin for Sunday 09/11/2005

Mitch Harmon came forward this past Sunday morning seeking to be restored to Christ and His church. He desires to be the spiritual leader for his family that God calls him to be. Let's all be an example and encouragement to Mitch in his commitment to walk faithfully with the Lord.

We extend our love and sympathy to Vivian Cross in the loss of her sister, Susan Blakely, last Saturday morning, following a fall she had on Friday. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

with Robert Prater

In recent days we have all been stunned by the horrific toll of devastation left behind by Hurricane Katrina which has crippled the Gulf coast. We have witnessed and heard stories of such unbelievable destruction, chaos, and turmoil in the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. We have seen images that few of us would have never dreamed of viewing in the United States. Thousands upon thousands are now left homeless and without the basic necessities of life. They do not even know when their lives will be normal again. Our heart goes out to them.

In response to all of this suffering and loss, the elders have decided for Central to take up a special collection this coming Sunday morning to help provide relief for the victims of this terrible tragedy. We will be in contact to send these funds to congregation(s) who will be working closely with families in need in that region. What we all need to do now is pray and begin making preparations on how we are going to respond to this crisis. Remember the apostle Paul's words, "So let each one give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." (2 Cor. 9:7) Brethren, let's demonstrate to the Christians and non-Christians of that area that because God first loved us, we love them and want to help them. We are all created by God, and being made in His image, let's show our love for humanity in loving ways to help those who are suffering.

Friends, may our hearts be made tender to these almost unprecedented and unparalleled needs of so many in this country whose names we do not know. But one name we must lift up and represent clearly for others to know is "Jesus." Please be in prayer for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and once again be considering how much you can contribute to our special collection this Sunday.

On Sunday, September 11, the Central Church of Christ will have a special donation (following our regular contribution) for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Funds donated will be used to meet the physical and spiritual needs of those in the New Orleans and Gulf Shores areas. We are currently seeking a congregation in the Gulf area to which we can send these funds. Please prayerfully plan to participate in the special contribution on September 11. If you would like to donate funds but cannot participate on Sunday, make checks payable to the Central Church of Christ, write "Relief Fund" on the memo line and give to one of our elders or mail to the church office. For more information, call (405) 273-3065.

Please be keeping our upcoming Gospel Meeting with Ted Kell on September 18-21 in your thoughts and prayers. The theme for the meeting is "Hope For Today In the Eternal God." We still have plenty of HTH brochures for you to give away and mail to others inviting them to come. Please be praying for the success of this meeting and plan now to attend each night. Keep in mind that all teen and adult classes will be meeting together on the 18th, and there will also be a potluck luncheon for the entire congregation following the Sunday morning service that day.

We appreciate so much the prayers and thoughts before and during the surgery of Zane's mother, Elmira. She is home now and recuperating very well.

My apologies to the Vanlandingham's. It's Mariah not Maria! In last weeks bulletin I spelled her name incorrectly. Even as I typed it, I thought to myself, "that doesn't look right", and it wasn't. Sorry Mariah! (I should have caught this too, Ann (me too! Ron))

We have been blessed with lots of new faces in our youth group classes the last few weeks. If you see a young person you don't know, introduce yourself to them and make them feel welcome. Some have just been visiting with their parents and others have come because our teens have invited them. Either way, we need to let them know we're glad they came.
