Bulletin for Sunday 10/09/2005

AMONG FRIENDS

with Robert Prater

Time is passing by so quickly. It was one year this week that our family moved to Shawnee and began working with this congregation. Maggie and I want you to know how much we appreciate your love and support of our family and how much we truly enjoy being a part of this special family here at Central. You have prayed for us, embraced us, and been so supportive of our work. You have made our transition and first years work a positive experience. We look forward to many more years of great labor with you.

Friends, I do believe that together we have accomplished much good this past year. However, we must always remember that there is much work to be done. Now is not the time to glory in recent accomplishments or become satisfied and complacent. We mush press onward. We must "be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord." (1 Cor. 15:58) We have our charge and mission to accomplish. (Matt. 28:18-20; Mk. 16:15-16) The Lord's church needs to continue to grow and be built up in Christ. (Eph. 4:11-12) There are souls needing salvation. Fallen members need to be restored. The spiritually weak need to grow in commitment. Young people need our time and instruction. Young families and marriages need to be nurtured. Future servants and leaders need to be trained. The sick need visiting. Needy people need to be clothed and fed. There are missionaries to support. And much more!

While all of the above mentioned may at times seem overwhelming, please remember that God will be with us. He will give us the needed strength for the work ahead. (1 Cor. 15:10) The Lord has never required His followers to be strong in numbers, education, or money before He could use them, but rather only strong in faith! We need to also remember that it is impossible to do the will of God without involving our time and energy. Nothing good ever comes easy in life. Staying busy only in our own pleasures and projects will not accomplish the work of God. The Lord's kingdom must be given top priority. (Mt. 6:33)

Friends, I'm excited about seeing what God will do in the future here at Central. There is no doubt in my mind that we have only begun to reach and see the potential in this congregation and the community. May the Lord help us all to contribute our part in continuing to make the congregation here at Central a strong and long-lasting faithful church for years to come.

SYMPATHY

We extend our sympathy to Jim and Vivian Cross in the loss of Jim's sister, Helen Harris, of Lake Jackson, Texas on Saturday morning.

We also express our sympathy to Bill and Cathy Rose in the passing of Bill's brother-in-law, Carl Allen Rackley who passed away on Thursday of last week. Funeral services were Monday afternoon.

We also offer our sympathy to the family of brother Bill Roberts who departed this life on Sunday. Brother Roberts was a member at Highland in Tecumseh and was well known and loved throughout the area for his school administration service, his Bible teaching and preaching. Funeral services were scheduled for Thursday afternoon at Highland's new building, 905 East Walnut.

WARMTH FROM THE HEART

On Saturday, October 22, Central for the third consecutive year will be giving away coats, hats, and gloves to warm the bodies of those in need. We not only wish to save them from the cold, we want to reach them with the word of God. You've dug into your closets, scoured garage sales and discount stores, and because of this our supply continues to increase. We do still need coats sized 8 to 18 and 1x to 3x, and many more stocking caps and gloves. There's a rack for new coats in the fellowship room under a sign next to the nursery. If you can help in any way please indicate this on the signup sheet in the foyer.

Hope to see you here Sunday!

THANK YOU

Thank you to all who helped with the meal for the Shawnee football team. Along with the meal, the players and coaches had an opportunity to catch a glimpse of our wonderful church family. One player even asked, "Are the people in your church always this friendly?" May we always strive to be salt and light for Christ. Thanks again.

Bob & Louise Perry

Dear Brethren,

Thank you so much for your prayers, visits, food, and other acts of kindness during my recent operation and recuperation. I am at home now and hope to be back to worship services soon. We are so thankful the operation was a success. We are certain your prayers and concern was helpful for that success. I welcome visits and calls.

Love, Buddy Truesdell

PRAYER CONCERNS

Doris Whittern remains in Solara Hospital, room 219. Doris's daughter, Phyllis Heald, is in ICU in critical condition at Unity Health Center. Melba Boston began chemotherapy on Friday of last week. Floyd and Juanita Davis were involved in an auto accident on Thursday evening of last week. After several hours in ER, they were allowed to go home. It was good seeing them in worship Sunday. Lorine Watson's sister, Jane Watson, is in critical condition at Deaconess Hospital. It was great having Sarah and Larry Smith in our worship Sunday evening. Sarah and her family still need your prayers. It was also good seeing Buddy Truesdell with us once again on Sunday evening. After many months of faithfully caring for her husband, Dwight, we were happy to see Nancy Harber back in worship Sunday.
