Bulletin for Sunday Sunday 01/08/2006

AMONG FRIENDS
with Robert Prater

It is great to be back in touch with you after a two week absence. The holiday season was enjoyable, but it is great to be off and running as we begin another new year. The year 2005 was a great year for the Central family as we made many wonderful strides to advance the kingdom of God in this community. The year 2006, according to my perspective, promises to be another productive year with many great opportunities ahead of us. This is an exciting time to be alive, and a member of the Central Church of Christ.

I am anticipating an even greater year in the area of outreach and evangelism. The primary central purpose of the church is to teach the gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost. I am hoping and praying for more souls to be converted and restored to the Lord this year. I am excited about seeing more involvement from dedicated workers among the members of this congregation. I am looking forward and hoping for each member to stretch and grow spiritually in their faith. I am eager to experience more love and fellowship between the brothers and sisters in Christ here at Central. I am excited about our potential to grow both spiritually and numerically. Won't that be wonderful!

Now, in order to achieve this, we will need each of you to do your part. Be here for every Bible class and worship service as you possibly can. Be inviting and bringing others with you. Be a daily Bible reader. Seek to bring someone to Christ. Please continue to pray every day for our year together. Let's all resolve to be more faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ and His church throughout this year. Please join me in making 2006 a banner year here at Central.

Friends, I want you to know how much me and my family love the Central congregation. Your prayers, love, encouragement and support are deeply and sincerely appreciated. We feel so blessed to be serving the Lord in such a wonderful church family. May the Lord's richest blessings and grace be upon everyone of us this New Year.

BIBLE QUESTION BOX

During the month of January you are invited to submit any Bible related questions you would like to have addressed from the pulpit. There will be a box located on the table in the foyer where you may place those questions. Then, starting with the first Sunday night in February, Robert Prater will begin considering those questions on Sunday evenings.

BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST

We rejoice with the Clavin Norwood Family on the baptism of Alexis by her father on Wednesday evening, December 29.

APPRECIATION

We are truly appreciative of the fine lessons we received on December 25 from Monty Pettyjohn and Ron Taffe. Both of them brought excellent food for thought. We also wish to express our thanks to Bob Stephens for the excellent devotional he arranged for Wednesday evening last week.

IT'S A BOY & A GIRL! IT'S TWINS!

Dwyane and Marcia are about to pop with pride in their new grandchildren in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Julia Parker Gloekler was born on Friday at 8:30 a.m. weighing six pounds, seven ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long. Michael Paul Gloekler was born at 8:31 weighing 5 pounds, seven ounces and was 19 inches long. Mother and son are now home from Ocean Springs Medical Center, and Julia should be home soon from Gulfport Memorial Hospital. Best wishes to Marcia Leigh and Michael!

PRAYER CONCERNS

We continue to have no one from Central in the hospital at this time to the best of our knowledge.

Fay Crosby has been moved to Sunset Estates, 2B, in Tecumseh.

Fay's sister, Nora Cole is greatly improved and is now out of ICU and in room 360 at Baptist Medical Center. She can be called direct at 945-5360. She may even get to return home by the end of the week.

Sarah Smith's grandson, Bryan Hudgins is recovering well from ear surgery.

Youth News
Bob Stephens

We all rejoiced with the Norwood family last Wednesday evening. Alexis came forward to be baptized into Christ. Her father, Clavin did the honors. It's always such a wonderful thing to see a young soul committing their life to the Lord. Let's all keep Alexis in our prayers as she begins her new walk. We know that her folks are very proud of her and so are we.

What a blessing it was to spend New Years with the youth group and their families this past weekend. We had gorgeous weather (how often do you get to go outside and play volleyball on New Years Day?) and a great crowd. If the numbers at worship Sunday seemed a little down it's because we had twenty-nine at Burnt Cabin with us. It was just a wonderful time to spend with your friends and family all at once. Thank you to all who helped put the retreat together, especially Rita Romberg and Mary Kelly who coordinated the meals for us.

I pray that the new year brings you health and happiness, but most of all, I pray that it will bring us all closer to God.
