Bulletin for Sunday Sunday 04/09/2006

AMONG FRIENDS

with Robert Prater

Some have already turned in their congregational questionnaire/survey forms. The elders would like to have all of these filled out and returned by Sunday, April 16th. You may place them on the table in the back of the auditorium or at any of the exits. The elders are anxious to have feedback from you and recognize greater effectiveness in all of the current and future areas of work here at Central.

We are grateful to our elders for having the wisdom and foresight to detect the need to be more productive in the work, involvement and future growth of the Central church. We appreciate that they have involved the congregation in such a good way. They are asking you for input on what you believe are the greatest strengths, opportunities and challenges facing the Central congregation. This process depends to a great extent on you! Be praying and thinking about it and filling these forms out.

The Central congregation, like many churches, has experienced upward and downward trends with regard to numerical growth. Of course, over 13 years ago the East Main congregation merged with the Central congregation. Throughout the years the Central church family has preserved through "thick and thin" and has not grown weary. As a result of your unwavering dedication, the Central Church of Christ is a strong, healthy and faithful body.

While Central has made great strides in the past as far as numerical growth, there may have been times when we have reached a plateau and needed to renew and improve our efforts to reach greater heights. Friends, such a time exists now at Central. We must join hands, hearts and minds and work like never before in the kingdom of God if we are to continue to see this congregation be blessed with both spiritual and numerical growth.

Friends, I'm excited about the future of Central. I'm proud and thankful to serve and work beside you. I'm thankful to work with Dwyane and Bob, and such godly leaders as our elders and deacons. By saying this I hope to spur you on and encourage you in the work of God. Together let us remain strong and faithful, and let us know that we are to be about the saving and edifying of souls. Thank you for your dedicated commitment to the work of the Lord in this place.

We owe it to our dear sister to keep her in our prayers and to be a source of encouragement in her life.

Youth News

Bob Stephens

Last Wednesday night thirty-two of our members prayed from 10 p.m. til 7 a.m. in 15 minute shifts. The prayers were on behalf of a young man from Tulsa who was in a snow boarding accident in Colorado about five weeks ago. His name is Cody Veteto. Cody is a freshman at Abilene Christian, his parents, Ken and Carry went to school at Oklahoma Christian with Janet and me. Cody has been in a coma since his accident and we've been keeping up with his situation via computer blogs. A congregation in Denver set up a continuous prayer chain on Cody's behalf and our time slot was last Wednesday night/Thursday morning. God is so good. Cody is showing signs of coming out of his coma and is stable enough to come back to Tulsa. He has a long way to go, but with all the prayers, he'll make it. Thanks to those who stayed up late, woke up in the middle of the night, or got up early to pray for Cody. Continue to pray for him and his family in the days and months to come.
