Bulletin for Sunday Sunday 08/06/2006

AMONG FRIENDS

with Robert Prater

If you haven't already, please be sure and pick up a 2006 Membership Involvement Questionnaire. You can find them on the table in the foyer or at any of the door exits from the auditorium. The elders want to encourage each member in every family to fill one of these sheets out and return it as soon as possible. They want you to find the areas where you feel capable of working and being involved in this congregation of God's people. The Bible says, "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might." (Ecclesiastes 9:10a) The apostle Paul would say, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men." (Colossians 3:23 NIV)

I want to also challenge you as the elders did on Sunday for each member here at Central to think seriously about growing and stretching in an area of work for the Lord that you have never done before. Maybe you've thought about doing it before, but for whatever reason you just haven't done it. It might be learning how to become a Bible class teacher, bringing a Wednesday evening devo, getting involved in the visitation program, working in our coat giveaways, helping conduct Bible studies, leading in the public worship assemblies, assisting with the young people, hosting a fellowship event in your home or whatever it might be. Let's all try going beyond our own self-imposed limits and "comfort zones" and try something new for the Lord. Friends, it is vital for the future of this congregation that we recruit, train and encourage new levels of membership involvement. (See Eph. 4:11-16) Thank you for all that you have done and will continue to do in serving the Lord in this place.

Finally, please begin now praying and planning ahead for our Gospel Meeting scheduled for September 17-20, less than two months from now. Kent Allen from the Memorial Road Church of Christ in Oklahoma City will be our speaker this year. He'll be speaking to us on the theme of "Families Under Pressure." Kent is a great and faithful preacher of God's Word and is always well-prepared.

RESTORATION

Ravan Rockwell, who has just recently visited us, came forward this past Sunday morning expressing her desire to rededicate her life to the Lord. Ravan was converted a few years back at the Seventh and Beech congregation in Durant, but unfortunately, after escaping the corruption of the world, has found herself entangled in it all over again. Do your best to meet and encourage this sister in her renewed commitment to the Lord.

VBS REVIEW MEETING

There will be a post VBS Meeting this Sunday evening after services in the fellowship room to review and plan ahead for next year's Vacation Bible School. This meeting is for all our teachers and workers who were recently involved in our successful VBS. Your ideas, comments, and input are greatly important in evaluating, planning and making our VBS even greater for next year. See Robert Prater for more.

ADDRESS CHANGE

Virgil Beasley is now living at 308 Linda Lane, Tecumseh, OK 74873.

THANK YOU

To our Church Family,

Thank you so much for all the love you have shown us at the celebration of our anniversary. You have made it one of the most happiest and enjoyable times in our lives. Thanks so much for all the beautiful cards, the calls and visits. We love you all. Don & Rosie Brightwell

I wish to express my deep appreciation for those who came to the hospital during my surgery, visited me at home or called me on the phone following my surgery a couple weeks ago. I appreciate Buddy and Fay for providing the pizza for our evening meal upon my return home. Your love and concern will not be forgotten.

Chuck & Nona Carter

PRAYER CONCERNS

We are not aware of any Central member in the hospital at this time.

Fred Bowers's son, Larry Bowers, had angioplasty and two stints at Oklahoma Heart Hospital on Wednesday of last week. He returned home on Friday.

Virgil Beasley was scheduled to have cataract surgery on Tuesday of this week.

Nancy Irelan will have cancer surgery at Deaconess Hospital on August 9.

Jerry Watson, stepfather of Clavin Norwood, is recovering from colon surgery in the hospital in Idabel. It is requested that we keep him in our prayers.

It was good to see the return of several who have been ill: Ruth Autrey, Melba Boston, Chuck & Nona Carter, James & Ellen Childers, Thelma Franklin, Altha Smith and Dorothy Strickland.

Youth News

Bob Stephens

The Youth Group went to the Oklahoma Food Bank last Saturday to volunteer their services. Rob mentioned in last week's bulletin the great job our guys and girls did with VBS. Well, Saturday was just another example of their willingness to work and help others whenever and wherever needed. They worked so hard Saturday that they sent the paid staff at the Food Bank scrambling for things for them to do. One of the Food Bank workers told us it was very refreshing to see kids not only working hard but to do it without complaining. Surprised? I'm not. Our kids exemplify Christ every chance they get! To God be the glory!

"D. L. Moody once said that at a certain meeting two and a half people
were converted to Christ. A friend asked if he meant two adults
and a child. The facts were just the opposite - two children
and an adult. When a child is led to Christ, a whole life is saved!"
Dwight L. Moody -- 8^{)
