Bulletin for Sunday Sunday 08/20/2006

SYMPATHY

1931 BILL FLEMING 2006

We extend our loving sympathy to the family of Bill Fleming. Bill departed this life on Monday morning at his home. He was the husband of Mary Jo Fleming, the father of Chris Fleming and Debbie Taffe. He was also a brother-in-law to Buddy Truesdell. Bill had been a member at Central for a number of years with many friends who miss him and mourn his passing. Funeral services were to be conducted by Dwyane Dennis at Resthaven Funeral Chapel on Thursday morning at eleven o'clock.

We also extend our sympathy to Emma White in the loss of her sister, Ina Robbins, in Idabel last Thursday evening. Services were held on Monday afternoon in Idabel.

AMONG FRIENDS

with Robert Prater

Our children will be returning back to school this week. We have a great group of young people, and we wish them a great year of school. We also have many in this congregation who work in the school system. Plato once said, "The most important task a civilization has is the upbringing, protection and nurture of its children." And friends, when we add the spiritual dimension to it, that statement is all the more true. (Prov. 22:6) Let's be sure and remember to "surround them all with prayer."

While it is sad to see the freedom of summer come to an end, it is also great to see new adventures begin. It's also good to see a more regular "routine" back in our lives. As you are getting your family into routine, please make sure that your routine includes regular involvement at Central. I want to especially encourage you and your family to make faithfulness in Bible classes and worship a top priority. Determine right now that if all possible, you'll strive to be at every single worship service. (Heb. 10:24-25)

This coming Sunday we look forward to hearing the announcement concerning the overall attendance goal number for next month's three week long Bible School Drive here at Central. But for now, mark the dates of Sunday September 3, 10, and 17 on your calendar. Much more will be said about this over the next several weeks. Of course, this Bible school drive will be building and culminating with the start of our Gospel Meeting with Kent Allen. He'll be bringing some very timely and much needed lessons on the theme of "Families Under Pressure." Be sure to make plans to support, attend and encourage others to be a part of all of this. Make a difference in your life and the lives of your family and friends.

Youth News

Bob Stephens

For better or worse, it's back to school time! It's time for the "early to bed - early to rise" mentality again. If you've looked at the August youth calendar you've noticed we don't have a lot going on this month. That's because the summer has been busy for the youth group. Let's see, we went on a retreat, then camp, then a bunch of us went camping, then to Texas, then VBS, then a workday, and a whole lot of AWTG's were mixed in for a full summer.

As things slow down and everyone gets back into the swing of school, things don't really slow down at all! Anymore it seems that our kids stay busy all year round. Football, band, clubs, cross-country, soccer, the list just goes on, and on, and on. Well, you get the idea. Our children are pulled in many directions and everyone (coaches, teachers, directors) think they deserve the most of their time. Even as adults we encounter that. But the thing we have to ask ourselves is, "who deserves the most time?" "Who's number one?" Our God, the One who created us, the One who loves us, the One who redeemed us through his Son. That should be number One in our lives. Jesus tells us in his sermon on the mount (Matt. 5,6,7) how to handle ourselves in the world. We need to be lights to everyone around us. We need to not sweat the small stuff. We need to seek him first and we need to listen to the word.

In the midst of all that your school year throws in your path, rememberů.

Who's Number One? God's Number One!

COMING YOUTH EVENTS

August 20, Sunday, Dinner & Devo after evening worship

Sept. 29 - 30, OC Fall Visit

"D. L. Moody once said that at a certain meeting two and a half people
were converted to Christ. A friend asked if he meant two adults
and a child. The facts were just the opposite - two children
and an adult. When a child is led to Christ, a whole life is saved!"
Dwight L. Moody -- 8^{)
