Bulletin for Sunday Sunday 09/17/2006

AMONG FRIENDS

with Robert Prater

Sunday proved to be another excellent day concerning our "Back to Bible School" drive, as we beat our second Sunday goal with 181 who came for Bible classes. It has been exciting to hear about so many of the children's and adult Bible classes that have been growing and meeting their class goals each week. God is so good and to be praised! We also thank God for each of you and have been so delighted that you've made the commitment and determination to be involved in our Bible school program here at Central.

This coming Sunday begins our Gospel Meeting with Kent Allen. This is the week to make follow-up to your invitations. The theme of the meeting is "Families Under Pressure." If there was ever a time we needed these series of lessons, it is now. Make every effort to be present to hear each of these special lessons next week. Also remember we continue to have many guests coming through our doors, please help them feel loved, welcomed and wanted.

Nearly all Christians go through peaks and valleys. We find ourselves sometimes close to God and at other times distant. Sometimes we are disciplined and at other times lax, sometimes taking our faith seriously and other times unaware that there is a battle, and sometimes fighting temptation and at other times giving in. In those low times we may even forget our own souls and that there is a lost and dying world out there that needs the gospel of love and grace.

Ephesus was strong in faith, works and doctrine but had lost its first love for the Lord. (Rev. 2:3-5) Timothy needed to fan into flame the gift that God had given him. (2 Tim. 1:6) Archippus needed to fulfill the ministry that he had received from the Lord. (Col. 4:17)

We must be careful not to be lulled into spiritual sleep, to allow our souls to drift from the message we have heard. (Heb. 2:1) The gospel is a message of good news that refreshes the heart and life. "Let us not grow weary in doing good, for we know that we shall reap in due season if we faint not." (Gal. 6:9)

Let us once again hunger and thirst for righteousness, for the Lord will satisfy that desire. (Mt. 5:6) David sang in Psalm 42:1-2, "As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?" What does your soul pant for, thirst for, hunger for? Do you have a deep desire for God?

RESTORATION

Last Sunday evening Jon Merritt came forward requesting prayers of restoration and rededication in his Christian life. His honest and heartfelt confession should move each of us to imitate his example. Please keep Jon in your prayers.

SYMPATHY

We express our love and heartfelt sympathy to Paul Harris in the loss of his father, Ray Davis in Oklahoma City Sunday morning. Dwyane Dennis conducted funeral services at Gaskill Funeral Chapel on Tuesday morning. The Davis's were members at Central in the fifties and are remembered by several from that time.

CONGRATULATIONS

We extend our very best wishes to Geoff and Carolyn Root on the birth of their latest grandchild. Stephen Alexander Root was born to Jennifer and Nathan Root on September 11 at 11:30 a.m. in Alexandria, Virginia. He weighs seven pounds, six ounces and is 20 inches long and "has a lot of dark hair." Carolyn is hovering in Alexandria right now while Geoff is left to hold the fort in Shawnee.

CHILDREN'S BAGS

The children's church bags have been relocated to the back foyer in the baskets under the table. We encourage all members and visitors children to pick up a bag before service.

Youth News

Bob Stephens

Congratulations to Austin Beard and Jason Perry in their football home opener Friday. Austin played a great game at center taking on one of the top nose guards in the state. Austin handled him with ease. And while Jason is sidelined with a shoulder injury, it didn't stop him from cheering his team mates on and being a leader. Also in action Friday night at the ball game was Marla Miller. Marla is a part of the chorus that sang the National anthem. Great job Marla!

I missed one of our students and their activities a couple of weeks ago. Kayla Miller is in the band at the middle school. She plays the alto saxophone. Sorry about that Kayla.

Sunday evening, September 24, the teens are planning to visit with the teens at Northridge. They have invited us to worship and fellowship with them. Mark your calendars for that date! It will be a great opportunity to get to know other Christians in the Shawnee area. The more Christians you have around you at school, the more support and encouragement you can give and receive.

COMING YOUTH EVENTS

Sept. 24, Sunday, Worship and dinner at Northridge. Leave at 4:45 p.m.

Sept. 29 - 30, OC Fall Visit, Seniors only, www.oc.edu

Hope to see you here Sunday!

There's a place for YOU

in Bible School!

can we really be interested in God?"
