Bulletin for Sunday Sunday 10/15/2006

AMONG FRIENDS

with Robert Prater

Some 92 million Americans are supplementing religious activities by surfing the Internet for spiritual or religious purposes. According to a recent study this year, 48 percent of the nations 138 million users sent and received e-mail with spiritual content. 27 percent searched the web for a place to attend church, and 23 percent requested prayer and donated money at religious sites.

Have you been to Central's website lately? Admittedly our website has not received the attention and promotion it really needs in the recent past, but we want to make a renewed effort in letting others know about it and keep it up to date. The purpose of our website is to provide information to anyone wishing to inquire about our congregation. It features the weekly bulletin (also contains past bulletins), offers a free bible correspondence course, has good literature on "What to Expect" when visiting our services and "Who we Are" which explains more about the church and some other web links" to good material and sites sponsored and associated with churches of Christ. The site also allows you to listen to recent sermons in MP3 format including our recent Gospel Meeting series of lessons on "Families Under Pressure." We have service times, directions to the church, and other "good stuff" to view. The address for our website is: www.tenthandbell.org.

Friends, this is a great opportunity and tremendous avenue to communicate and make an impact locally and throughout the world with the saving gospel message of Christ. We want to invite and encourage others to "check out" the Lord's church and the congregation here at Central! Tell others about our website and encourage them to visit us on the Internet!

However, this is an area of work that requires on-going input and information. We greatly appreciate Ron Taffe and all his hard work in maintaining and updating this website. Perhaps you have a gift of writing, graphics, or other skills that could help us in maintaining or even improving our website. If you have content information and other ideas you feel are important to promote the Lord's church that worships here through this website, please contact and visit with Ron about it. "I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings." (1Cor. 9:22-23 NIV)

THE SOUL AND THE GOSPEL

Jesus said, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Matt. 16:24-26)

Your soul is so valuable, because you only have one of them. Once this life is over and the time for judgment comes, nothing will matter as much as your soul. Either Jesus by His blood will pay for your sins, or the Lord will require your soul for them. (Rom. 5:6-11; 6:23) Each of us must give an account of our lives before the judgment seat of Christ. We will give account for what we have done, good or bad. (2Cor. 5:10) The basis of this judgment is the teaching of Jesus Christ. (John 12:48) The requirement of this judgment, if you should be found unrighteous, is your soul. Nothing less. No bargaining. No appeal.

Without the grace of Jesus, who shed His blood for us, we will lose our souls. Salvation is not a trivial thing to be ignored or dismissed. We must hear the word of Christ to have the faith that saves. (Rom. 10:17) It is the gospel that leads us to our salvation. (Rom. 1:16; James 1:21-25; 1 Pet. 1:23-25) Without the good news of the gospel, our souls are in peril.

Think about this. Your own soul, the souls of your loved ones, and the souls of your acquaintances, will all matter on that day. This is why the work we are doing to reach out to the lost is so very important. (Mark 16:15-16) Let us not take for granted the work we have before us.

WHICH VERSION?

There have been some inquiries as to which version of the Bible we will use in our study of Luke in Ladies Bible Class this year. The teacher will be using the American Standard Version. Class members should feel free to bring whatever version they prefer. The class got off to a great beginning last week. You're always invited and welcome.

We thank all of you for your kindness and love - mostly your prayers on my brother Fred Phillips's behalf. The food was so good. Love in Christ, Gayle Holman & family, a member at Carbondale Church of Christ in Tulsa

Dear Central church family,

Our deepest heartfelt appreciation goes out to everyone who brought gifts or contributed money in the group gift for the baby shower you gave in our honor this past Sunday afternoon. Words seem so inadequate to express the "showering" of your great love, kindness and generosity that you have shown to our family. You have continued to "shower" us over these last two years with many kind acts of encouragement and we love you and are so thankful to you. You reminded us once again of how fortunate and blessed we are to be a part of this special church family. We especially want to thank the hostesses of the shower, Analisa Beal, Denise Beard, Mary Kelly, Louise Perry, Tammie Perry, Rita Romberg, and Janet Stephens. In Christian love, Robert & Maggie Prater.
