Bulletin for Sunday Sunday 11/12/2006

with Robert Prater

This past Lord's Day was an uplifting and encouraging Sunday. First, it was certainly good and we enjoyed hearing brother Mike O'Neal, the president of Oklahoma Christian speak to us Sunday morning. We greatly appreciated his desire to take time from his busy schedule to visit us and to share with us from God's Word about the importance of education for God's people and the fine work being done at OC. We also enjoyed an outstanding fellowship meal together afterwards. I love potluck dinners, because when we eat together it gives us time to visit and talk and get to know each other at a deeper level. We thank the ladies for all the wonderful food.

Then on Sunday evening, we rejoiced with the baptism of Trilbya Anderson. What a joy it was for all of us who were present to witness her new birth and salvation in Christ Jesus. We also were thrilled and glad to welcome Tanya Blades and her family to the Central congregation. Trilbya and Tanya are cousins to one another. We welcome both of these wonderful families to the Central church family

Friends, great and exciting things are happening right now at Central. The Lord is providing for us many "open doors" of opportunities to work, serve, encourage others and reach out to the lost in this congregation and community. Let's all be ready to assist and labor in the kingdom of God. And let's remember to pray for God's blessing and to thank Him for all He has so graciously given to us.

On a personal note, there is much excitement and anticipation building around the Prater house. We are now less than two weeks from our baby's arrival. Both the soon-to-be big sisters are ready, Dad is ready and of course Mom is very ready for him to come. Please continue to keep Maggie in your prayers and that everything continues to go well and the baby is healthy (and still a boy!) We thank you once again for being such a blessing and encouragement to our family.

We all seem to have family members or friends serving in our armed forces. Please continue to remember them in your prayers.

Trilbya Anderson was baptized into Christ for the remission of her sins on Sunday evening. We rejoice with her in the joy of her salvation. Trilbya used to attend Central some when she was younger with her family. She is a cousin to Tanya Blades who placed membership on Sunday. Please encourage her and keep her in your prayers as she strives to grow in her Christian faith. Trilbya has a two year old daughter, Anneca. Their address is 1921 N. Park, 74804. Cell phone number (405)788-5122.

Sunday evening Tanya Blades expressed her desire to be a part of the fellowship, work, and worship of the Central congregation. She has recently moved here from Garland, TX and is a teacher and coach at the Shawnee Middle School. She is a cousin of Trilbya Anderson. Tanya has two children, Makai (4), and Jordan (2). Their address is 5812 Brangus Rd., 74804. Cell phone number (918)230-4001. Please give them a warm welcome into God's family here at Central.

We extend our sympathy to Maggie Prater in the loss of her aunt, Loweta Hawkins last week. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday in Pryor, OK.

Nadine Magee is in physical therapy at Unity Health Center, South Campus, room 301.

Sarah Smith's grandson, Justin Schaffer, had heart surgery at Presbyterian Hospital on Tuesday. Sarah had shoulder surgery on Wednesday at Deaconess Hospital.

Harvey Moore is under evaluation and treatment at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston.

Melba Boston appreciates your prayers.

Hope to see you here Sunday!

There is a sign up sheet on the foyer table for volunteers for the Warmth from the Heart giveaway on Saturday, December 2. Please sign up and be a part of this gratifying work serving the Lord and helping people in need.

We are in need of sizes 8 through 18. Adults, XLG thru 3X along with caps, gloves, and blankets. Please remember - no clothing, shoes or toys.

Our congratulations to Jim and Vivian Cross on the birth of their second great-grandchild. Braxton Burchette was born October 31 at the Renaissance Center in Midwest City. He weighed 8 lb. 1 oz. and was 21 1/2 inches long. Parents are Brandon & Kelly Burchette.

Central Church of Christ: Thank you for the beautiful flowers you sent for Mom and for thinking of us at this time. Mom thought a lot of all her Christian friends at Central.

Walt Disney was right: It's a small world after all. How many of you have had the amusing experience of encountering during the course of everyday life, people with whom you've shared some form of tangential or incidental connection in the past?

We touch the lives of many more people than we realize we do. Just stop to think for a moment about all of the people you've known in your lifetime. I don't just mean your family, friends, co-workers or neighbors. Think of all the clerks who've rung up and bagged your groceries at the supermarket. The mechanics who have serviced your cars. The strangers with whom you've struck up a casual conversation while watching a baseball game, or waiting for a flight at the airport, or standing in line at some store. Could you even reasonably estimate how many people should be on that list of contacts?

Now think about the impressions you've left on all of those people. The fact is we make a mark on the lives of numerous people every day, often without even realizing that we've done so. You may not even recall interacting with some of those people, but they may well remember you - whether favorable or unfavorable will depend upon the nature of that interaction.

Most importantly, what do those interactions tell the world about Christ? What portrait do we paint of our Lord and Savior with our words, our behavior, and our attitudes - even in those situations where we don't know the people around us and may not ever expect to see them again?

Jesus often used casual contacts as stepping stones to more meaningful, spiritual conversations: the woman at Jacob's well (John 4), the man born blind (John 9), and Zacchaeus (Luke 19) are but three examples we could cite. Paul did likewise - think of the Philippian jailer in Acts 16. How many seemingly insignificant connections do we make in the world around us that might turn into opportunities for the gospel - if we conduct ourselves in a Christ-like manner?

"Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time." (Col. 4:5) Wherever you go, whomever you meet, in whatever circumstance, remember that you are the light of the world. (Matt. 5:14)
