AMONG FRIENDS

with Robert Prater

Our camp session at Burnt Cabin begins on Sunday.  This year’s camp is promising to be special.  Now, there are a number of people that need to be thanked for helping make camp happen.  First of all, I cannot tell you just how much Ann Bivins, our church secretary, has done in the office with helping me in preparation for this camp week – putting together the camp books, registration of applications, and so much more!  Believe me when I say that she has gone beyond her “call of duty” around here.

Now as far as the camp week itself, as director I depend upon a large supporting staff to help make the week a success.  Many of these people come from other congregations which attend our session but at least half are from Central as well – Denise Beard, Amber Curtis, Steve and Mary Kelly, Amy Kelly, Nathan Kelly, Bob Perry, Lindsey Perry, Maggie Prater, Bob and Janet Stephens, and Andy Stephens.  Many thanks to these dedicated Christian people who are freely giving their time and energies to provide for this important spiritual event in the lives of young people.  I also want to thank all the parents, grandparents, and members who help support and encourage our camp week and especially those who have helped sponsor a child.

We do request your prayers while we are gone at camp.  Pray for our safe travel to and back from camp.  Pray for our physical safety during all the camp’s many activities, but above all, pray for us to have a spiritually uplifting week of camp with these young people who will attend.  This is the reason behind all the sweat, energy, and hard work that church camp requires.  Our purpose is to teach and help along that process of “bringing them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” (Eph. 6:4)

Friends our summer this year is shaping up to be an extremely busy one here at Central – camp, VBS, other special events planned, plus the normal work of the church.  It is likely that in the next couple of months you will be asked to do something to make it happen.  Now somebody may not come and ask you to help, but I am asking right now that when the general call to set-up, clean-up, cook, teach, bring food, serve or whatever else may need to be done goes out, that you will do your part.  “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” (1 Cor. 12:27 NIV)  I know you’ll do your part for the benefit of the body.

GOSPEL MEETING AT PRAGUE

The Prague congregation invites you to their gospel meeting, June 10 – 15 with Carroll Sites from Higden, Arkansas.  Sunday through Friday evening services will be at seven o’clock.  See the bulletin board for sermon topics.

NOTE FROM PERRY COTHAM

I note from your bulletin that you do not know exactly my age.  As of this past January 5, I was 95 years of age.  So I am now well on my way to age 96.  I look forward to being with you September 29 and 30 for your great celebration of the church’s 100th year.  I look forward especially to seeing those who were there when I preached there, preaching in the old building.  Sincerely,

Perry B. Cotham

CENTENNIAL PICTURE

If you would like a copy of the Centennial Plaque Ceremony picture taken in January, please be sure to sign up for your copy by this coming Sunday, June 10.  An order will be placed this coming week.

CONGRATULATIONS

Terry Banta and Dee Carr were united in marriage on Saturday of last week.  If you would like to participate in a group gift see Mary Kelly or Sue Merritt.  They will be worshiping at the Thompson Heights congregation.  We extend our best wishes.

THANK YOU

Thank you for the Bible and the reception.  It is so nice to be among such thoughtful people.    With love,                                                   Kristin Gober

PRAYER CONCERNS

Gerald (Snuffy) Smith continues to show good improvement.  He still has to have occasional dialysis.  Physicians have not yet said anything about moving him out of ICU.

Buddy Truesdell is in the Oklahoma Heart Hospital, room 221, following a severe cardiac arrest on Wednesday afternoon last week.  He came out of an induced coma and appears to recognize some people.  Still in serious condition with ups and downs, but everything is about as well as could be hoped for at this time.

Carol Mahnke has had to delay her new treatment at  M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston due to blood work not being what it has to be.   She requests and appreciates our prayers.

Ben Salter had angioplasty at Oklahoma Heart Hospital on Monday and returned home on Tuesday.  Everything went well.

Louise (Dixson) Bross, after a stay in the hospital, has been moved to the Bryant Nursing Center, 1100 E. 9th, Edmond, OK 73034, room 507.  She would enjoy receiving cards and notes from her friends at Central.  She is a cousin to Jim Pettyjohn. James

Childers has been moved to Rose Manor Care Center, room 310-A
