REQUESTING PRAYER

This past Sunday evening Teresa Story requested the church’s prayers in her behalf because of negligence in the past and her great desire to be a more involved Christian.  She requests your prayers and your assistance in finding ways to be of service.  We appreciate Teresa’s devotion to Christ, and we must do everything we can to help her be all that she can be as God’s faithful child.

SYMPATHY

We express our loving sympathy to James Childers in the loss of his sister, Elsie Showalter, on Thursday of last week.  Elsie also lived at Rose Manor Nursing Center as does James.  Funeral services were scheduled to be on Tuesday of this week at Cooper’s Funeral Chapel.

AMONG FRIENDS

with Robert Prater

It’s that time of year again!  Our annual Vacation Bible School program is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 16 and will run through Friday, July 20.  Activities will start each day at 9:00 a.m. and end at 11:45 a.m.  We will also once again have a special concluding Friday Night Open House program at 7:00 p.m.  VBS is for all children ages 3 through 5th grade.

This year’s VBS theme is God the Builder“Building Character that Counts!”  Each day the children will learn inspiring  Bible stories that will provide them many examples of faithfulness that are so important in forming lifelong character.  Children will experience a “class rotation system” that leads them on a great adventure through a dramatic telling of each day’s Bible story in the auditorium, along with other learning stations which will include application and story rooms, crafts, refreshments, games, plus lots of singing, and of course puppets!

There is such an awful lot of work that goes into VBS! Soon many of the building’s classrooms, hallways, fellowship room and even the stage in the auditorium will be transformed into fun-filled decorations and exciting Bible scenes of the past.  Keep in mind that you don’t have to be asked to help out – volunteers are always greatly welcomed!  I’m just so thankful for the many, many people here at Central who participate to make this such a great work.

We’ll soon have available both VBS invitational postcards to mail out and enrollment forms to fill out.  Friends, VBS is a great opportunity to reach out to your non-religious friends and neighbors.  Please continue to pray and work towards making this year’s VBS a tremendous success.

THANK YOU FOR NICARAGUA

George and Carolyn Mastick would like to thank all those who have contributed so much to the collection of supplies for the Medical Mission Trip to Nicaragua.  You have been more than generous.  Since the supplies will need to be taken to Duncan for packing, we will need to end the collection Sunday, July 8th.  If you have additional supplies to contribute please bring them by that time.  The collection tub will be picked up Wednesday, July 11th.  Thank you again for your generosity.

PRAYER CONCERNS

Carol Mahnke is home from her trip to M.D. Anderson in Houston.  She is extremely tired and weak.  Pray with us that the treatment will be successful.

Buddy Truesdell   is now in Solara Hospital, room 219.  He has shown significant improvement. A mask, gown, and gloves are still necessary for visitors, but visitors are welcome.

We rejoice that Gerald (Snuffy) Smith is now home and continuing to improve.

L.M. Booker was still waiting for his pathology report at last word.

Beverley MacMillan has recovered from her pneumonia and is doing well.

James  Childers had a fall on Thursday that required  18 stitches, but he is doing well and was in worship Sunday evening.

Dorothy Strickland’s son-in-law, Wayne Underwood, had two very major surgeries at the same time last week at OU Medical Center, Presbyterian Tower.  He is doing amazingly well and is out of ICU.  Wayne is the husband of Linda (Strickland) Underwood.  They appreciate your prayers so much.
