Bulletin for Sundays 07/29/2007
AMONG FRIENDS - Robert Prater
Our 2007 Vacation Bible School was another tremendous success this year. Each day the children enjoyed a dramatic Bible lesson presented in the auditorium, and then experienced a “class rotation” schedule that led them to various fun filled and exciting learning stations of application and story rooms, crafts, refreshments and games, and finishing up back in the auditorium for lots of singing and puppets.
The number of children only in attendance grew each day – something that usually doesn’t happen. Monday: 72, Tuesday: 75, Wednesday: 77, Thursday: 79, Friday: 84! The official count for Friday night’s Open House program was 220! We shared afterwards outside on the youth house lawn a time of fellowship enjoying hotdogs, cold pop, snow cones and the children having a fun time playing in our moonwalk bounce and Samson Smash! I visited with many people from outside the Central congregation who were very impressed with how well our Bible lessons were taught and the overall atmosphere of our VBS. We will soon be delivering a copy of the VBS slideshow and info about the Central congregation to visitors.
There are so many people to thank and there is no way I can mention everyone involved, but below are some of the workers that deserve to be recognized. I cannot thank each of you enough for your endless dedication in making our VBS as great as it turned out to be.
Traveling Teachers: Ann Perry, Molly Gettle, Cheryl Miller, Marla Miller, Cayla Miller, Valerie Conway, Sue Merritt, Analisa Beal, Judy Finch, Lecia Jones, Louise Perry, Vivian Cross, Doris Phillips, Carolyn Root, Nancy Harber, and Robby Kinsey.
Story Room: Maggie Prater, Mary Gettle
Application Room: Tim and Janice McGalliard, and Kenton McGalliard
Story Tellers: Mary Kelly, Janet Stephens, Robert Prater, Bob Stephens, Robby Kinsey
Craft Workers: Denise Beard, Lindsey Perry, and Angie Gober
Refreshments: Paula Harris, Jim and Cathy Pettyjohn, and Marcia Dennis
Games: Pam, Courtney and Wade Baskin
Van Drivers: Paul Harris and Jim Pettyjohn (We ran the van and bus and picked up nearly 25 kids each day)
Teenagers/College: Molly Gettle, Leslie Gettle, Jason Perry, Kenton McGalliard, Keon Lawrence, Courtney Baskin, Wade Baskin, Austin Beard, Chad Beard, Marla Miller, Cayla Miller, Mariah Vanlandingham, Bryce Dean, Branson Martin, Lindsey Perry, Zack Qualls and to Andy Stephens and Nathan Kelly who did a fantastic job on the puppet skits all week. Nathan also took many of the pictures for the Slideshow as well. These all helped with our dramatic Bible stories each day and anywhere else they were needed.
There were so many others who worked behind the scenes in VBS. I want to thank those people who helped with decorations, baked and brought cookies, helped serve on Friday night during Open House, donated money, and invited and brought children to VBS
There are a few people I need to give some special thanks. To Jim Pettyjohn, Bob Perry, Mitch Harmon (mowing & weed eating), Branson Martin, and Paul Harris for all their hard work in setting up canopies, tables and chairs for Friday night. Rita Romberg for all the amazing work she does with all the many decorations around the building. Maggie Prater for the teacher’s preparatory work and overall help to me in coordinating VBS. Bob Stephens for making the great looking street banners, puppet stage house, and the “construction” theme signs. Scott Perry for helping with PowerPoint, putting together the Slideshow and serving snow cones on Friday night.
So many this past week used their God-given gifts, talents, and abilities to teach, serve and work in the Lord’s kingdom. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.” (Col. 3:23 NIV) We’ll soon have a meeting to evaluate this year and make plans for next year! May the Lord God bless you all richly in Christ Jesus. --Robert-- (email@example.com)
We extend our love and sympathy to the Beard family in the sudden loss of Denise’s 25 year old nephew, Ben Carter of Sayre, OK. Services were held Thursday morning in Sayre.
Our love and sympathy also is extended to Joyce Kelly and Steve in the loss of Louis Kelly. He was the brother to Elmo Kelly. A memorial service was held last Friday afternoon in Del City.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL
On Saturday, August 4, we will be having an ice cream social in Woodland Park from 5 til 8. We are in need of freezers of ice cream and ice chests to keep the ice cream in until serving. There is a sign up sheet in the foyer for this as well as helping to set up and clean up. The social is for all members as well as an outreach for our visitors from VBS. We hope Central is well represented. Any questions – see Geoff or Carolyn Root.
CENTRAL’S CENTENNIAL HISTORY BOOK
There were copies of our centennial book that were made available beginning last Sunday. One is free to each family that is listed in our membership directory. Other copies are available for a cost of $3.00 which is the cost of printing the book.
HOMECOMING INVITATION LIST
We are compiling a list of former members and friends to receive an invitation for our Centennial Homecoming on September 29 and 30. An invitation from you personally would be the most appealing in many instances, but we will also send invitations from the church to those for whom we have names and addresses. Please be thinking about this and turn the information in to the church office as soon as possible.
Thanks for sending us off with your kindness, love, and best wishes. You and God are very special to us, as God is love. We hope to find a new congregation in Greenwood, Arkansas. Though we have moved, memories of Central are forever. We miss you. In Christian love,Fredith and Margaret (Hanifan sisters)
