SYMPATHY

1921       EDGAR  O'NEAL       2007

We express our loving sympathy to Rachel O'Neal and to all the family of Edgar O'Neal.  Ed passed away on Wednesday, and graveside funeral services were conducted by Dwyane Dennis at Resthaven Memorial Park on Saturday.  Ed was a kind and gentle man who brought laughter and joy to all who knew him.  He was a faithful Christian, and we will continue to miss his presence.

We also extend our heartfelt sympathy to Howard and Talhia Vanlandingham in the loss of their son-in-law, Larry Thomas, after a lengthy illness.  Memorial services will be in Athens, Tennessee on Saturday.

BAPTISM

We greatly rejoice with Virginia Yellowbird who was baptized into Christ last Wednesday afternoon.  Virginia began visiting our services a few months back after receiving House to House/Heart to Heart in the mail.  For the past few weeks she has been studying with Robert Prater and Burl and Barbara Vanlandingham.  Please do your best to welcome Virginia and her two boys Xavier (4) and Ezekiel (3) into God's family at Central.  Keep Virginia in your prayers as she continues to learn more about God's Word and grow in her relationship with Jesus Christ.    Her address is 5 N. Tennessee, 74801.  Her phone number is 273-0061.

MEMBERSHIP

Sunday morning Anita Hinson made known her desire to place membership with the Lord's church here at Central.  She has been a member of the Highland Church of Christ in Tecumseh for many years.  Anita is the mother of Carol Brodersen and the grandmother of Lysa Park and great-grandmother of Eric and Adam Park.  Please give her a very loving and warm Central welcome.  She lives at 30764 New Hope Road, Tecumseh, OK 74873.  Her phone number is 598-3787

AMONG FRIENDS

with Robert Prater

This past Saturday was a tremendous day of outreach and service with our annual Warmth from the Heart coat giveaway.  People began lining up outside the building over an hour before we opened at 10:00 a.m.  There were 127 families, totaling around 475 people from the Shawnee area.  We distributed a total of 439 coats, 437 gloves, and 282 caps.  We also gave out many New Testament Bibles, teaching tracts, and other info about the Central church as well as giving out over 90 Searching for Truth evangelistic DVD's.  Those who came also received plenty of smiles, warm handshakes and love from this church family.  There were many good contacts made for future study.  Several individuals requested to receive Bible correspondence courses and some were interested in studying God's Word with us.  In addition, we were also blessed to have one young lady and her two children visit on Sunday evening and attend Children's Bible Hour.

Of course we are so thankful for all those who worked to help make this a successful day.  We once again express our appreciation to Ron and Debbie Taffe for all they do in their labor of love towards this outreach ministry.  Friends, without volunteers, this congregation could not do the work it does.  The part you play matters.  For every worker in every ministry, God bless you.

“God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name……..”  (Hebrews 6:10)  Here we are reminded that when we serve and keep on serving, even the small and seemingly unnoticed ways, God will never forget.  He will remember.  Every note you write, every call you make, every visit, every gift, every kind word spoken, every service out of love for His name God sees and He will not forget them for all eternity.  Yes, sometimes weariness and fatigue come as a result of our work.  We get tired out; we get weary in well-doing, but in due season, we will reap.  (Gal. 6:9)  We will reap because God is not unrighteous to forget us.  So don't faint in your walk; God hasn't forgotten you!  Without works, our faith is dead indeed (James 2:26), but “you have ministered and DO minister.”     --Robert--(robprater@sbcglobal.net)

THANK YOU

We want to thank all who expressed their love and sympathy, sent flowers, and attended graveside services for Ed O'Neal.  We especially want to thank Dwyane Dennis for the kind words expressing the loss of someone very precious to us.                                 Rachel O'Neal & Family

To the members of the Central Church of Christ:

Thank you for your prayers, cards, and visits.  They meant a lot to me.  One of my doctors at O.U. Medical Center told me that prayers had saved my life.  She said the doctors and nurses had only been instruments, but that God was due our appreciation.  My family and I say, again, thank you.                                    Charlotte Seikel

To the Monday afternoon ladies class:

On behalf of the Shawnee Fire Department, we would like to thank you for your wonderful and delicious tin full of cookies.  Your thoughtfulness was enjoyed by a station full of hungry firemen.

                      Jimmy Gibson, Shawnee Fire Chief

Youth News

Bob Stephens

Last Thursday I had the opportunity to watch the Shawnee middle school eighth grade drama class perform a play in which our very own Wade Baskin had one of the leading roles.  Wade played the part of “Detective HD” (short for Humpty Dumpty!).  He was hilarious!  Great job, Wade!

Our annual hayride is this Friday night.  Everyone is invited to our house to enjoy some hotdogs, marshmallows and some great fellowship around the fire.  The bonfire will be lit at 6:00 PM.  The dogs and buns will be there, just bring your lawn chairs and your hotdog roasters.  If you want to bring some fixins',  talk to Janet.  She can fill you in on what to bring.  If you need directions, see Janet or me and we'll get you there!

Congrats to Austin Beard and Brandon Gober and the Shawnee Wolves.  They won their first round playoff game last Friday evening and will be traveling to Guthrie on Saturday for their next game.  Good job guys!

Boy, we have a busy weekend!  Besides the hayride on Friday and the football game on Saturday, we have the Secret Saints Luncheon on Sunday.  Secret Saints be sure to plan to be with us for lunch Sunday after morning worship.  We will reveal ourselves to each other and share a meal together.  See u there!
