In his book, Growing True Disciples, George Barna reports “evangelism is not a priority to most Christians. Less than one of ten said they have ever intentionally built a relationship with someone in the hope of being able to lead the person to Christ. This in turn is probably related to the fact that only one of every eight adult believers feel adequately prepared to effectively share their faith.”
Friends, the Central eldership have decided that the time has come to renew our commitment to personal evangelism and to become adequately prepared in doing so. We want to make this our goal in the coming weeks and months ahead during 2008. We want to energize and mobilize the congregation and provide the evangelistic training, encouragement and tools needed for this purpose. It is our hope and prayer that this congregation can really begin working towards having an outstanding and permanent evangelism program in place for years to come.
Therefore, to begin working towards this effort, this coming Sunday morning, and the Central congregation will view a great series of lessons on DVD entitled, “Searching for Truth.” I believe this new evangelism tool will fill a need for an up to date approach to teaching the lost. It has the potential of becoming for the church of today what the Jule Miller filmstrips were for the church of a generation ago. The truth of salvation never changes, but the presentation must be fitted for each generation in order to most effectively reach them. The series is true to the Gospel, and covers all the foundation principles to convert the lost. It is taught by John Moore, evangelist with the Dripping Springs church in
Texasand produced by World Video Bible Schoolin . Maxwell, Texas
Much more will be said in the weeks to come about all this and the vital part that each member will be needed to contribute. Right now here is what you can do:
· Be thinking about those you already know and love who need the gospel
· Take advantage of future special outreach events to invite others
· Avail yourself to opportunities to learn and be trained in sharing the gospel
· Commit to being here over the next three weeks on Sunday and Wednesday evenings as we watch this DVD series.
· Finally, please pray, pray, pray!
