AMONG FRIENDS

with Robert Prater

This week we will have concluded showing the DVD series “Searching for Truth.”  This series of lessons are a new evangelistic tool that we desire to implement and use here at Central to help us in the area of evangelism and outreach.  We wanted to show all the lessons in order to gain a better understanding of what we are using.  This series of lessons are not only faithful to God and His word but they are excellent in its presentation of the divine truth.  We are excited about making this tool available to the Central congregation.  This will give us one more medium for others to learn and be taught the good news of Christ.

In the next few weeks we will be further unveiling some specific evangelism plans and challenges for Central.  We want to provide an opportunity for involvement and participation by every member of this congregation when it comes to sharing Jesus with others.  I can tell you now that we will be purchasing hundreds of copies of these DVD’s and every family here at Central will be given a free copy.  We will also have plenty of “extra copies” available for members to use and give to others who are interested in viewing them.  Of course, this DVD is a tool, and like all good tools, it will only work when put to use.  Be praying for someone you know and love.  Pray that the Lord opens a door for the word, so they may hear and be saved.

“For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.  And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.” (2 Corinthians 5:14-15 NIV)  Perhaps more than any other single Bible passage, these verses should summarize our motivation as a Christian, especially when it comes to sharing Christ with others.  That’s it, really.  The love of Christ compels us.

You see, not only did Christ die for me: He died for all.  Jesus died for every person with whom I interact every day.  When you look at other people what do you see?  Do you see someone for whom Christ died?  We need to realize that if lost people matter to God so much that He sent Jesus to die for them, then should they not greatly matter to us also?  Let’s contemplate the love of Christ for us and let our love for Jesus overflow and become a contagious love for others.

POCKET SIZE DIRECTORY READY

Our new updated pocket size directories for 2008 are completed and are available for you to pick up at the auditorium exits.  Numerous changes have been made including new members, cell phone numbers, and email addresses.  This is a major task for Ann Bivins each year about this time, and we truly appreciate her efforts.

LEADERSHIP DINNER

Seminole is hosting the area wide Leadership Dinner this year on March 7.  They will have Neal McCaleb for the guest speaker.  All elders, deacons, ministers, other leaders and the spouses are invited to come and share information from their congregations.  The cost is $8 per person.  They will need a count by Sunday, March 2, from each congregation.  Central is always well represented, and we know this year will be no exception.  Please call our church office to RSVP as soon as possible.

     LTC Reminder…..

I need to know who’s going to LTC in the way of parents and siblings and whatnot so we can make room assignments.  If you haven’t gotten with me yet, please do so quickly.

We will have some busy upcoming Sundays in preparation for the LTC convention.  Kids, make sure to be at as many of these practices as you possibly can.  Parents, encourage your kiddos to be there!

When I reported a few weeks ago about all the activities the kids are involved in this spring, I neglected to mention Lettie CurtisLettie is a 6th grader at South Rock Creek and is on the Academic team.  Being a newcomer to the youth group doesn’t intimidate or slow down Lettie.  She has jumped into youth activities and LTC with both feet!  She has become “one of our regulars”, you know the type…the ones you know will always be there.  Way to go Lettie, and thanks!
