1922          James E. Childers          2008

We extend our loving sympathy to Ellen and all the members of the family of James Childers.  James went to his reward on Monday of last week, and funeral services were conducted by Dwyane Dennis in our building the following Friday.  James was a faithful, devoted Christian, a loving husband and father who will be missed by all of us.

1932          Virgil Beasley          2008

We offer our loving sympathy to the family of longtime Central member, Virgil Beasley.  Virgil passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday of last week, and a memorial service was conducted by Dwyane Dennis in our building the following Monday afternoon.

We also extend our sympathy to Lynn Harmon in the loss of his sister, Betty Miester.  Funeral services were pending in Missouri when The  Gospel Guide was prepared.

Our sympathy is also extended to Mazella Patterson in the loss of her nephew, Lynn Patterson.  His funeral service was scheduled for Wednesday at the Park Row Church of Christ in Arlington, Texas.

We also extend our sympathy to the family of L.M. Booker.  Brother Booker was a pillar in the Farrall St. congregation who died on Wednesday of last week after a long struggle with cancer.  L.M. was a great friend of Central's and frequently attended our services.  Funeral services were conducted in our building on Monday morning.

Friends & Family Day on Sunday, April 20 is now just less than three weeks away.  Make sure to invite your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and anyone else you know, to join us on that special day.  Our speaker will be Tim Lewis from the North MacArthur Church of Christ in Oklahoma City.  He is the kind of preacher you will be glad to have your friends come and hear.

The words to the moving hymn, “Lead Me to Some Soul Today should remind us all of the overwhelming need to reach out to the lost and bring them to Jesus Christ.  “Lead me to some soul today; O teach me, Lord, just what to say; Friends of mine are lost in sin, and cannot find their way.  Few there are who seem to care, and few there are who pray; melt my heart and fill my life, give me one soul today.”

What unique relationships has God placed before you and I that may be for the purpose of directing them to Christ?  You know, Kevin Costner's Field of Dreams doesn't work in outreach.  We must GO to the people who need to hear the good news of Jesus.  We can't sit back and wait for them to come to us.  The Lord is depending on you and I to share the gospel with those you know and love.  Now, I do believe as one preacher has written: “They'll come if you will go!” (Matt. 28:18-20)  As children of God, we must continue to remain conscious of lost souls and pray that we might lead some of them to Christ.

NEIGHBORHOOD SURVEY UPDATE - the new dates are now scheduled for Saturday, April 12 and 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  We need people willing to conduct the surveys and others to go as silent partners.  We also need some workers at the building to provide and serve lunch, childcare help, phone workers and other assistance, and encouragement and prayers for the door-knockers.  This Sunday evening, after services, there will be an Orientation Meeting for all potential workers.  We will go over the survey and provide other important training tips and details about the door knocking effort.  If you are interested in helping at all, please make plans to attend this meeting.  Dinner will be provided.

Thank you for the beautiful flowers; Mother loved pink!  Special thanks to everyone who provided food for the family meal.  Everything was wonderful.  Thank you to the pallbearers.  Mother chose you, so you were special to her.  Thank you to Mr. Dennis for being there to help us and the kind words spoken at Mother's service.

The Family of Ethel Fast

Dear Church Family, You will never know what a blessing you have been to us during the past two weeks.  Your prayers have been gratefully appreciated.  Thank you so much for the sacrifice you each made in bringing us wonderful meals, all the phone calls, visits, and cards.  It is a true blessing to know that we have such a caring and loving Christian family here in Shawnee.

May God bless you, Harvey & Carletta Moore

Spring has sprung!  Trees are budding, the flowers are blooming, and our seniors are getting busier and busier.  So, here's one more thing to do, seniors:  We need pictures for our senior reception.  I know it's not ‘til May, but maybe this can be one less thing to worry about if you start looking at them and pulling them together now.  You can give them to either Janet or myself.  Oh yeah, be prepared for your mom to look at every picture of you she has before picking the right ones.  It could be a while!

I'm sorry about the postponement of the  LTC appreciation dinner last Sunday evening.  We have rescheduled it for Sunday, April 13th after evening services.

This Sunday, April 6, is the annual AWTG Volleyball Tournament at Tecumseh.  We always have a good time fellowshipping with other teens from the area, and sometimes we even win a game or two!  We plan to leave after worship Sunday morning and return in plenty of time for evening worship.  The Highland church will be providing lunch.
