Bulletin for Sunday 04/27/2008
with Robert Prater
Friends and Family day was another great success this year. Tim Lewis did a fantastic job of sharing some great and inspiring messages of hope with us. While we did not reach our attendance goal, we did accomplish what we intended for that attendance push to provide – lots of visitors! That is what this day was all about. God continues to bless us richly here at Central with growth and opportunity.
We want to thank everyone who diligently worked and helped to make this day be such a great one. We are especially thankful to Geoff and Carolyn Root who were responsible for coordinating the noon meal in the Municipal auditorium. (And the food catered by Chicago Street Deli was just tremendous!) We also thank those who helped set-up and clean-up for this meal. Also thanks to our own Bob Stephens who arranged the fire watch and serves on the Earlsboro Volunteer Fire Department.
I want to give a big “thank you” to all those Central members who volunteered and helped in our Neighborhood door knocking survey. We covered probably between 800-1000 homes combined on these two Saturdays and made many good contacts for future opportunities of study and visits. Workers included: Pam and Wade Baskin, Carol Brodersen, Paul and Paula Harris, Anita Jacques, Steve Kelly, George and Carolyn Mastick, Clavin Norwood, Branson Martin, Tim Norton, Lysa Park, Bob and Louise Perry, Jim and Cathy Pettyjohn, Doris Phillips, Robert and Maggie Prater, Bob and Janet Stephens, Teresa Story, Ron Taffe, Burl and Barbara Vanlandingham, and Jim Walling. These Christian people showed great courage and faith in walking the streets of Shawnee to speak for Christ and deserve a job well done!
Finally, let’s all continue our efforts to reach out and share Jesus with others. Keep on inviting your friends and family and take advantage of every opportunity to speak about the Bible, Christ and His church, and what a difference it has all made in your life. Researcher George Barna reports that one in four adults in this nation who are not presently attending worship services say that they would be willing to do so if someone they knew and respected would just invite them. Why not be that someone who will invite them. Remember the words of the apostle Paul, “It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.” With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak; (2 Cor. 4:13 NIV)
Anna Jarvis departed this life Sunday morning at the age of 92, and we express our sympathy to all her family. Funeral services were to be conducted this week on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Chapel. Larry Norris was to conduct the service.
We extend our sympathy to Don Brightwell in the loss of his sister, Martha Agnes Childers, on Wednesday of last week. She was also the sister-in-law of Rosie Brightwell and Ellen Childers. Graveside funeral services were conducted Monday at Resthaven Memorial Park.
CENTRAL LADIES DAY
The third Central Ladies Day will be held on April 27 immediately following the morning worship service.
