Bulletin for Sunday 05/18/2008
with Robert Prater
Congratulations to Courtney Baskin, Austin Beard and Alexis Norwood, who are graduating from High School this year. They are each special young people and we thank God for them and the blessing they have been to the Lord’s church here at Central. This Sunday evening we will be honoring them by presenting them with Bibles at the close of the service and afterwards with a Senior Reception in the fellowship room. This is a time for you to visit with them, give them a graduation gift and wish them well in the future.
We hope and pray that as these seniors begin a new chapter in their lives that they always remember God. (Ecc. 12:1) That they always keep in mind that the Christian way is the best way. Resolve in your heart today to make His way your way. Let us as parents, grandparents, and friends continue to be an example for our young people and encourage them in the way that is right.
Last Sunday morning, Pamela Blackshire responded to the Lord’s invitation and expressed her heart felt desire for prayers and encouragement in drawing closer to God in her life. She and her six children have been visiting Central the past few weeks as guests of Keith and Jennifer Lawrence. Please keep Pamela in your prayers as she seeks to sincerely do the Lord’s will in her life.
CONGRATULATIONS HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS
We extend our warmest congratulations to Central’s three high school graduating seniors and their families. We’re proud of these young people for this significant achievement and wish for them the very best. We will honor and celebrate their accomplishments during a Senior Reception this coming Sunday evening after services in the fellowship room. Below is some information about each of them:
Austin Vance Beard
Austin is the son of Dale and Denise Beard and grandson of Eddie and Vada Beard of Duke, and Roberta Bonds and the late Gary Bonds of Sayre. He is the brother of Adam and Chad Beard and brother-in-law of Misti Beard.
Austin has been an active member of the Central Church of Christ youth group and has participated in Leadership Training for Christ in song leading, sermon delivery, chorus, drama, Bible quiz, Bible bowl, and puppets. Austin is a regular congregational song leader at Central. He has been active in Bible school, Vacation Bible School and Bible Hour. Austin has also attended Burnt Cabin Youth Camp every year since he was nine years old.
Austin is a member of National Honor Society, Who’s Who Among American High School Students and formerly played the tuba in Shawnee’s Marching Band. He has thrown the shot put and discus for the track & field team for five years and was a member of the 2005 state championship team. Austin has played football for many years and was a two-year starting center for the Wolves. He was named an offensive team captain his senior year and was named to the State 5A All-Star, All-District, Big All-City and Tri-County Teams as an offensive lineman. He was named football homecoming king his junior year and during his senior year won the “Fighting Heart” award. Austin participated in the football team’s Big Brother program and spent time with young boys who need male role models. He plans to attend college in the fall and pursue a career in the medical field.
Courtney Leigh Baskin
Courtney is the daughter of Kevin and Pam Baskin, granddaughter of June and Bernard Sharp and the late Wilford Terry and J.D. and Eloise Baskin of Alba, Texas. She has a brother, Wade.
Her activities while in school included running Cross Country and Track since middle school. She won numerous awards and medals during that time. She also was involved in Tri-Hi-Y, SOS and FCA.
Courtney has also been very active with the youth group at church, including years at church camp and participating at LTC. She has helped with VBS, The Oklahoma Food Bank, Bible Hour, Christmas baskets, and caroling for the elderly and was a member of the group that went to Muskogee to help other church members clean up debris after an ice storm.
Her plans for the future are to attend college at East Central University in Ada and major in elementary education and minor in Spanish.
Alexis Lavern Norwood
Alexis is the daughter of Clavin and Agnes Norwood, older sister of Skyler. She will be graduating from Shawnee High School this year after having been a member of the National Honor Society for four years. and everything else makes sense. An atheist denies God and has
to accept incredible explanations for everything else. It takes
more faith to deny God than to believe in Him. "
