AMONG FRIENDS

with Robert Prater

Burnt Cabin Christian Camp was a tremendous success this year.  We had 156 campers and a staff of 34 join us for a fun and spiritually-uplifting week of camp.  The theme for the week was iGod which focused on being connected with God.  As always our Bible classes served as the bedrock of our camp along with devotionals and worship periods plus many other activities scheduled each day.  It was beautiful to see counselors, teachers, cooks, and support staff pull together to make the camp a success.

I am constantly amazed at the impact camp can and does have in the lives of so many.  Does it cost a lot of money to put on a camp?  Yes!  Does it take a lot of man hours from many volunteers to maintain and conduct the camp?  Yes!  Is it all worth it? That can be easily answered by asking, “What are the souls of our young people worth?”

Now camps like this do not just happen.  A lot of people invested time, energy, and effort to make this week a reality.  I am especially grateful to all those from Central who helped so much to make this week a great success.  I thank God for your service in this effort.

Once again this year, our own Nathan Kelly put together a terrific camp slideshow.  We hope to be able to post this slideshow and many other camp photos online.  Be watching for details soon.

The summer season is now in full force.  That means vacations for many.  When you travel, do not forget the worship assemblies.  Don’t know where a church is where you will be traveling?  Let me recommend to you two means of finding a congregation of the Lord’s people when away from home.  First, we have a church directory book in the office that lists all the congregations in the U.S. and in some foreign countries.  We would be glad to look up a congregation for you or you can come by the office and look one up for yourself.  Second, go online and visit the website: www.churchzip.com

When you visit this website, you type the name of the place where you will be and it will give you all the congregations of the Lord’s church in a 20 mile radius of that place.  If you want to know more about the church you have selected, you can go to your home page or use a search engine (like Google or Yahoo) to type in the name of the church.  If they have a web page a link will be displayed.  Click on it and you can find out more about the church such as directions, times of services, and other info.  You’ll enjoy the opportunity to meet new Christians while traveling.  “On the first day of the week, the disciples came together to break bread……….” (Acts 20:7)

Youth News
Bob Stephens

Last week was awesome!  We were blessed with good weather (only one day of rain), good people and great fellowship.  We had 15 campers from Central attend our week at Burnt Cabin this year.  They all behaved wonderfully, they always do.  Several of them received special recognition on Friday in various areas.  I tried to write them all down as they were recognized.  If I missed someone, I’m sorry, let me know.
