1920          ALTHA E. SMITH          2008

We extend our loving sympathy to the family and friends of Altha Smith.  She passed away peacefully at Golden Rule Home on Wednesday, June 25.  Dwyane Dennis conducted funeral services on the following Saturday at the Chapel of Walker Funeral Service.  Altha was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  Most of all, she was a devoted Christian.  She was always smiling.  We miss that.

It’s that time of year again!  I'd be lying if I said Vacation Bible School wasn't one of the most exciting events of the year for me.  It’s an extravaganza of fun and laughter, games, singing, learning God’s Word, and so much more!  You probably know me well enough by now to realize that I love getting to “ham it up” for the sake of our children.  Now, VBS could not happen if it were not for the all unselfish and servant-minded Central members who have spent such a great deal of time preparing and planning for this effort which is one of our largest events of the year.

VBS serves as a tremendous teaching tool for our children and as an excellent form of outreach to the community.  We have a congregation that loves children and loves to help teach the Bible.  Our young people are precious and valuable.  So if your friends, family members, co-workers or neighbors have young children, please give them a personal invitation to attend.  Please also note that if any children need transportation assistance to indicate so on the form or call the church office.  Ladies, as always, we need you to bring your kid favorite homemade cookies (store bought cookies are fine too!)  Also, if you have not enrolled your children and any visitors you will be bringing, please do so as soon as possible.

VBS OPEN HOUSE  - On Friday evening, July 18, at 7:00 p.m. we will have our special concluding VBS Program followed by an Open House with hotdogs, cold pop, snow cones, and a moonwalk bounce and other fun activities and fellowship for everyone to enjoy.  There will be many visitors and parents to meet and get acquainted with.  So plan on attending!   Please keep all our efforts next week in your prayers and continue to help us make this year’s VBS the best it can be!           --Robert--(robprater@sbcglobal.net)

Congratulations to several of our teens!  Between June and July, Kenton McGalliard, Brandon Gober, Chad Beard and Molly Gettle have or will be turning 16!  As a parent, it’s always with mixed emotions to have a child turning sixteen.  On the one hand, you don’t have to bus them everywhere.  They can drive themselves and be the bus driver for younger brothers and sisters.  On the other hand… they are driving themselves!!! And then there’s the insurance!!!

Parents, be thankful in all things.  Scripture tells us that.  Kids, obey your parents!  That’s in scripture too.  Congratulations to the sixteen year olds!  Be careful out there!

July 14-18, VBS – We need you there in the mornings!
