AMONG FRIENDS
Robert Prater

Please remember the Ice Cream Bash this Saturday from 6-8 p.m. in Woodland Park.  There will be plenty of homemade ice cream, sno-cones, and other sweets plus a moonwalk bounce, face painting and gospel singing.  This is a follow up to our VBS and we are anticipating several visitors to attend.  Feel free to bring a guest with you.  Friends, how soul conscious are we here at Central?  We need to always remember the words of our precious Lord Jesus who said, “the harvest is plentiful.” (Matt. 9:36-38)  Every person you meet needs Christ to save them and to give them comfort.  Reach out and make a difference in their lives.

There is no greater truth in all the world than –God Loves People!  We read from the Word of God in John 3:16 the following precious words, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16 NIV)

What a wonderful truth!  The verse doesn’t say that God only loves Christians or religious people.  The verse doesn’t say that God only loves righteous or church going people.  The Word of God is clear that God loves the “world” (and that includes everyone).  No matter who you are, God truly loves you.  “He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.” (1 John 2:2 NIV)

Jesus died on the cross for all humanity, because God loves the whole world.  This means that God loves the murderer, the adulterer, the homosexual, the thief, the corrupt banker, etc.  This means that God loves the vilest sinner and the worst criminal. God loves people!

We really cannot ever stress the truth enough that God loves people; all shapes and sizes, all different temperaments and personalities, all varying levels of intelligence and character, every race, every tongue, every nation, every family, etc, etc.  God loves people.  I’ve learned over the years to view people as objects of God’s love.  If I start to think too critical about someone, I’ll catch myself and try to remind myself, “That’s a man or woman or child that God loves.”  We need to always remember that we’re all created by the same Divine Creator, and that God’s love knows no boundary and has no limit.

My question is: Do you and I, as members of the body of Christ, imitate and demonstrate this same love for people as our heavenly Father?  “Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children, and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” (Eph. 5:1-2 NIV)  Nothing makes the gospel of Jesus Christ more blessed or beautiful than when we share and model this message of God’s amazing love and grace for every sinner.  Let’s share the gospel and live the gospel.
