AMONG FRIENDS
with Robert Prater

I understand that Central’s Teacher’s Workday last Saturday was a very profitable time.  I know the number of persons who came was a great encouragement.  I don’t know if you realize this or not, but over the past two years (dating back to our Bible School drive in the fall of ’06) we have been experiencing a steady amount of excitement and growth in our Bible school program, and especially in our children’s classes.  In fact, we now have to add more children’s classes to meet the recent growth!  What a wonderful problem to have!

Now, in light of this, there has been a concentrated effort on the retooling and reorganizing of our children’s Bible school program.  Beginning next year, our children’s Bible classes here at Central will have a new curriculum program.  This new curriculum has a set goal and purpose to ensure all children by the time they reach the 6th grade will have studied all the major Bible character stories and events from both the Old and New Testaments.  We are so thankful for all the very talented and dedicated teachers who are willing to give so much of their time and energy in teaching our children the Bible.  I believe great things lie in the future for our education program.

Our fall Gospel Meeting with Phil Sanders of Brentwood, Tennessee is rapidly approaching as the date is October 5-8.  Please mark this on your calendar.  The theme for our meeting will be, “Why You Should Be a Christian.”  Phil is a great preacher of the gospel, and you won’t want to miss any of his lessons.  Our earnest prayer is that this topic will generate interest in our community and provide a good invitation to your friends and neighbors.  As our meeting approaches in the coming weeks, we want to share some things you can do to help make our meeting a great success.  The purpose of having these series of gospel sermons is to reach out to our friends, family, and neighbors with the good news of Jesus Christ.  Please keep all of these efforts in your prayers.

THANK YOU

Thank you to everyone at Central who helped with the “group gift” for our shower!  That was so very generous, and we appreciated getting our dishes and the ten piece Calphalon set!  Thank you for all your love and prayers, and for making our shower so special.  In Christ’s love,

                                Tad & Jennifer [McGalliard]

PRAYER CONCERNS

We were not aware of anyone from Central in the hospital when the Gospel Guide was prepared.

Boyd Cheney was admitted to Baptist Medical Center on Friday of last week and discharged on Sunday afternoon.

Gerald Akin is now hone, doing well, and was in worship Sunday morning.

Joyce Kelly has returned home after several weeks at Rose Manor Nursing Center.  It was also good to see her in worship Sunday.

Chad Beard will have major surgery at Children’s Hospital on Wednesday, September 3.  He requests that you remember him in your prayers.

Continue to keep in mind with prayer Juanita Combs, Donna Hale, Harvey Moore, Tim Norton, and Frances Taylor.
