BAPTISMS

Lettie Curtis was baptized into Christ for the remission of her sins on Tuesday evening, March 24 by her father Joe.  We are so very proud of Lettie and thankful for Christian parents like Joe and Amber.  We rejoice with them.

Also on Sunday, March 29, Ken Whittington was baptized into Christ at the Barnes Church of Christ after studying the plan of salvation with Ben Williams, the preacher at Barnes.  Both Ken and Ben are sons-in-law of Craig and Michelle McKnight.  Ken and Hillary McKnight were recently married and now both desire to be considered members here at Central.  Their address is 201 N. Cleveland, Shawnee 74801.  Their phone number is 317-7959.  We welcome Ken into the body of Christ and the Lord’s family here at Central.

AMONG FRIENDS
with
Robert Prater

The Lord blessed us once again with another successful Friends & Family day this past Sunday.  Dr. Alan Martin presented a wealth of Bible study, practical information and life experiences to this vital issue of strengthening our families and marriages.  Brother Martin preached the kind of sermons that I think had and will continue to have many of our members and families discussing and thinking about for quite some time.  We were richly blessed.  We enjoyed another tremendous meal catered by Chicago Street Deli.  We also had a good turnout for the 2:00 p.m. Q&A session on Parenting.  Please note that all of the lessons presented by Dr. Martin will be available and can be downloaded on our webpage.  Just go to www.tenthandbell.org and click on “Hear a Lesson.”  You can also download other sermons that have been preached recently here at Central.  Tell your friends and family about them and let’s all take advantage of these helpful resources.

I want to just say a great big THANK YOU to all who had a part in making this day the great day that it was.  I want to especially thank all those who helped setup on Friday afternoon and cleanup on Sunday after the noon meal.  So many people made the effort to help out and do lots of different tasks and everything went so very smoothly.  I know it makes me appreciate all the more the great people that make up the Central church family.  Thanks again to all for a job well done!

Now, even though Friends & Family day is over, let’s all continue to let others know of our love for Christ and His church family here at Central.  Think about someone who is in need of a relationship with the Lord and invite them to church, whether it is a worship service time or some other activity sponsored by the church.  Congregations grow well when the members are speaking well of it.  This coming Lord’s Day is “Easter Sunday” and will be a great opportunity to invite someone as more people attend church on Easter Sunday than any other day of the year.  We’ll expect to have many visitors, friends and family worship with us.

Finally, please remember all our young people and their families in your prayers this weekend as they travel to Rogers, AR on Friday to participate in Leadership Training for Christ (LTC).  They have worked so hard in developing and growing their spiritual abilities in serving the Lord.  We are so thankful to all the parents and adults in this congregation who have been so faithfully preparing them.  As always, we are so grateful for everything that Bob and Janet Stephens do in leading our young people here at Central.  Thank you, thank you.  May we all continue to thank God each day for all the good we see taking place at Central.

Youth News

Bob Stephens

By the time you read this article, we should either be preparing to go to LTC, or we’re already there!  Someone asked Sunday what LTC stood for.  LTC stands for Leadership Training for Christ.  It is a program that’s been around for many, many years.  The program’s function is to equip, or better equip, our young people in all aspects of serving in the Lord’s church.  This will be our tenth year to attend the convention.  Our kids participate in many different activities.  Activities range from Bible reading to sermon delivery, from bulletin boards to signing for the deaf.  The idea is to teach the church of the future to be an active, faithful, and productive church, bearing fruit for others to see.  Please pray for us that we will have a safe trip and bring glory to God in our activities.

Sunday was a busy day!  The Friends and Family day, lunch and an extra service kept us all busy.  But if that weren’t enough, we kept the LTC kids even busier!  All the kids have been awesome about the crazy schedule.  Thank you kids!  Thank you parents!  Janet and I were blessed even more during the last service of the day Sunday.  We sat behind several of our boys in worship.  They had been at the building all day for LTC.  They practiced reading Scripture, they practiced speeches, they practiced drama and they practiced puppets.  But even after a long and tiring day they weren’t just sitting there.  They were all singing, loudly enough to where we could even hear them from behind.  All that stuff and every one of them were singing praises to God.  It was funny.  I noticed it and before I could say anything to Janet, she nudged me because she noticed it too.  All the things we ran them through yesterday would wear out most, but not our group.  Central has great kids!
