AMONG FRIENDS

with Robert Prater

Once again this past Saturday, Central conducted it’s annual Warmth From the Heart coat giveaway.  There were 134 families for a total of 499 people who came from the Shawnee area.  We distributed 434 coats, hundreds of gloves and caps plus a number of blankets and other articles of clothing.  As usual, recipients were warmly and lovingly welcomed and treated.  We also gave out many New Testament Bibles, teaching tracts, and other info about the Central congregation as well as giving out a large number of Searching for Truth evangelistic DVD’s.  There were also Bible correspondence courses given, prayer requests made and good relationships established.  We pray that doors of opportunity will be opened in the future.

Friends this year’s coat giveaway was an extraordinary success because of the efforts of a variety of people.  Thank you to everyone who donated coats or contributed money.  We thank all the members who helped work on Saturday during the event.  Finally, we are so grateful and want to thank Ron and Debbie Taffe who work tirelessly to make our coat giveaway a success year after year.

“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”(1 Thess. 5:16-18 NIV) Yikes! “In all circumstances”?  Can we learn to give thanks in everything and for everything?  While we may never be grateful for certain painful experiences and circumstances in life, we can still be grateful during them.  We can still pray with a thankful heart.  Why” Because our hope is not in the potential answers to our prayers.  Our hope is in the God to whom we pray!  In Him we trust.  He has given us life itself – freedom, salvation, grace, mercy.  He chose us to be His children.  “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God” (1 John 3:1).  Who can’t be thankful for that?  Be thankful for how God has blessed you.

SYMPATHY

1934          Harvey Moore          2009

We extend our heartfelt love and sympathy to Carletta and all the family of Harvey Moore.  After a seven year struggle, Harvey departed this life in Houston, Texas on Sunday, November 15.  Funeral services were conducted at Walker Funeral Service Chapel on Monday, November 23, by John Henley, Tony Keesee, Ted Moore, and Dwyane Dennis.  The Moores worshipped with the church at Little for 20 years before coming to Central.  We miss Harvey, and yet we rejoice in his release from the pain he endured so patiently.

ADULT CHRISTMAS PARTY

There will be a Christmas party for all those in Robert Prater’s Sunday morning Young Adult/Families classes on Saturday, December 5th at 6:00 p.m. at the home of Kari Canard located at 6400 Acme Road.  Please bring finger foods and pop.  Also, bring a $5 Dirty Santa gift.

PRAYER CONCERNS

Lois Lanier began radiation therapy on Friday of last week and requests your prayers.  Judy Rampey, mother of Maggie Prater, had a stint implant in an artery on Monday at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa.  All went well and she was expecting to return home on Tuesday.  Earl Finch has a drainage tube after an emergency trip to VA Medical Center.  He should be home by now.  They appreciate your prayers.  It was good to see Grace Lofties in services Sunday following a car accident.

Youth News

Bob Stephens

The coat giveaway on Saturday was a blessing.  A pat on the back goes to Bryce Beal for being there Saturday morning to help.  Thanks Bryce, I owe you some pizza!

Congratulations to Kenton McGalliard for receiving his academic letter jacket.  He is in the top 5% academically of his senior class.  Wow, Great Job Kenton!

Also, congratulations to Dresean Whiting and Wade Baskin for a very successful football season with the Wolves.  They contributed to an undefeated regular season.  I know the end was quicker than they really wanted, but you guys had an awesome season, so great job fellas!

Chad Beard spent the weekend in Dallas at a basketball tournament.  His wheelchair basketball team played four games this weekend.  Chad, thanks for the inspiration.

Guys and Girls, mark your calendars for Sunday, December 6.  We will go to Oklahoma Christian to hear Matt Sloan sing in Cocoa and Carols.  We plan to leave after worship Sunday morning.  We’ll go to the Oklahoma City area for lunch, then head up to OC for the concert.  After the concert we’ll spend a little time on the campus and stay for worship at the Memorial Road church. We should return to the building by 7:30 p.m.

One more thing…beginning in January the youth group will begin reading the Bible through in one year.  It’s a tall order but with prayer, commitment and encouragement I know we can do it.  So kids, get psyched up and parents encourage your kids to read God’s word!
