Bulletin for Sunday 01/09/2011
With Robert Prater
This past Sunday evening 602 members from the Shawnee area churches of Christ came out to Praise Him 2011 at the Shawnee Expo.† It was truly a wonderful time of praise Ė heart-warming, inspirational, God-honoring worship that stirred the soul and raised the spirits of every person in attendance.† The number of people in attendance was indicative in itself that brethren in this area enjoy such special times of worship and fellowship with other congregations.† In a culture that increasingly seems not at all concerned about true doctrine, we have every good reason to rejoice in our common faith and fellowship in Christ.† May all of us together continue to appreciate it more and make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
Happy New Year, 2011!† Hard to imagine isnít it?† I pray that you have had the opportunity to look back on the past year.† I do not mean living in the past, but learning from the events of this year.† You have done some things well, how did you manage to do those things?† Learn to do them even better.† You have also done some things sub-par.† What lessons do you take from those things?† Learn to improve on your shortcomings and be a better person.† You struggled with sin.† How can you eliminate that sin from your life?† Do not let anyone tell you than you cannot.† We may never be absolutely perfect, but we can certainly try.† It is the true genuine effort that God desires.† Letís all make ourselves and the Lordís church better in however much of 2011 the Lord gives us.
Finally in last weekís article I encouraged you to read the Bible each day.† Let me also encourage you to renew your dedication to faithful Bible school attendance as these are additional opportunities to grow spiritually.† We are blessed with teachers who love Jesus and are willing to serve.† ParentsÖÖ..like everything else we do, the example we set will have more effect on a child than anything we say.† Let me also caution some who might be deceived into thinking: ďwell my children are grown, so I do not need to attend.Ē† Remember Paulís warning: ďLet him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.Ē (1 Cor. 10:12)† If you read this verse, Paul is discussing what they should remember from studying the Old Testament.† Understanding godly principles and personal application should be the result of our study.† Then as temptation approaches us weíll better know the ďway of escape.Ē† Hope to see you Sunday!††††

Christian New Yearís Resolutions
How can I use the New Year
To better serve my Lord?
Iíll read my Bible every day,
And be more in accord.
Iíll find new ways to serve others;
Iíll love my neighbor, too.
Iíll focus on ďgiveĒ instead of ďgetĒ
In everything I do.
Iíll forgive the people Iím upset at;
Angry feelings Iíll discard;
Iíll try to love my enemies,
Even though itís hard.
In the new year, Iíll lift people up,
Instead of putting them down.
Iíll fill my heart with love and joy,
And never wear a frown.
Iíll let go of my worries;
Iíll put it all in His hands;
Iíll repent and try to sin less,
And obey all His commands.
These new yearís resolutions
Are difficult, at best,
Be thereís something I can do each day
That will put my soul at rest:
Iíll love my Lord with all my heart,
With all my mind and soul,
And if I do that essential thing,
All the rest will be in control.
Hope to see you here Sunday!
