SYMPATHY

1918       LOIS LANIER    2011

We extend our sincere, loving sympathy to all the family of Lois Lanier.  Lois was one of Central’s greatest treasures, and she will be sorely missed.  Her influence for righteousness and goodness will be felt in our church family for many years to come.  Dwyane Dennis and Robert Prater conducted funeral services on Friday of last week at Central.

AMONG FRIENDS

withRobert Prater

Sunday is our Friends & Family Day and the start of our spring Gospel Meeting with Dan Chambers which will run from Sunday through Wednesday evening, April 3-6.  The theme will be “Culture in Chaos”Getting Back to Basics.  Studies by church growth experts tell us that over 90% of those who come to church for the first time do so because they have been invited by someone or know someone at that church.

Please also remember the catered fellowship meal following Sunday morning worship in the Municipal Auditorium next door.  It will be catered by Chicago Street Deli and will consist of ham and Chicken Tetrazzini, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, bread, and choice of cheese and carrot cakes.  Keep in mind that Dan will be teaching both the combined teen and adult classes on Sunday morning.

Finally, I want to remind every Central member how important it is to be friendly, especially to those who visit our church for the first time.  We always want to treat our guests as we would want to be treated going to a new church.  You see, we love the Biblical principle of fellowship, but we often forget the Biblical principle of hospitality.  The principle of fellowship is building a relationship between you and me.  It is rich, edifying, and encouraging. The principle of hospitality recognizes that we need to make room for the “new guy” so that he, too, can enjoy fellowship.

Hospitality doesn’t come naturally or easily; it takes planning and a commitment to obeying God’s Word.  Hospitality is so important that God makes it a requirement for elders.  If a man is not hospitable (the Greek literally means a “lover of strangers”), he is not qualified to be an elder (1 Tim. 3:2).  God wants us to be thoughtful of new people and INCLUSIVE. Let’s be a friendly church!

THANK YOU

We would like to thank all of you for all your prayers for our family during this most difficult time.  A very special thank you to all the wonderful women that took time out of their day to prepare such wonderful meals for our families.  You will never know how much of a load that took off of me.  I appreciate it so very much.  We are so fortunate to have been sent to Central and we love you and all  look forward to seeing more of you know that our father, George Pittser has joined our mother in Heaven.  Sincerely, Deena Littrell, Richard Pittser and family

To my church family, thanks for all the visits, hugs, flowers, and food during this time of sorrow.  You are truly my other family.  Special thanks to Dwyane who had surgery the day before the funeral;  To Dale who always does such a beautiful job with the singing;  To all who helped with the family dinner and  especially to Beverly and John who brought all the leftovers for our family that evening.  Love to all! Bertha (Akin)

Our family sincerely appreciated the lovely dinner you served us the day of Gerald’s services.  I feel I am part of your worship group as I have visited there so many years.  In Christian love, Marjorie Hewitt(sister of Gerald Akin)
