AMONG FRIENDS
Robert Prater

Please mark your calendars for Centralís Vacation Bible School this year of July 11-15.Probably the biggest news about this summerís VBS is that we are changing to a night time schedule from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. while our daytime VBSís have grown every year over the six years, in general, itís becoming harder to find volunteers to properly meet the growth needs. So, having a nighttime VBS will accommodate more adult workers who work during the day.Refreshments will be served afterwards each evening and weíll be having our Friday Night Open House program for all children, parents, and members to attend.

This yearís VBS theme will be: Super Hero Bible School (Training Heroes for God). This should truly be an exciting and super-fun VBS for the kids as they become Heroes in Training (H.I.T.) Now, when we normally study about great heroes in the Bible we think about people like David, Moses, Elijah, Esther, and so on.However, what makes this yearís study unique is that we will be studying from some of the lesser-known biblical heroes. They are people who stand in the background of some of the giants of faith.

And so our children will learn about these Bible story ďheroes in trainingĒ who were not super or powerful Ė yet God used their small acts to make a difference in the lives of people around them.

Monday:Heroes do the Unexpected.A servant girl speaks up, and God heals Naaman (2Kings 5:1-14).

Tuesday:Heroes take Action!Four men lower their friend through the roof down to Jesus to be healed (Mark 2:1-12).

Wednesday:Heroes Stand for Truth!A young man (Paulís nephew) shows courage and did the right thing by telling of a plot to kill Paul. (Acts 23:12-24)

Thursday:Heroes step out on Faith! An army officer goes to Jesus and Jesus heals his servant. (Matthew 8:5-10k, 13)

Vacation Bible School depends on the wonderful Christian volunteers who sacrifice their time to make it the best it can be.Since we are moving to a night time VBS, Iím anticipating more of the Central family to be involved. We need teachers, helpers, builders, decorators, and so many other tasks.

So if you didnít attend our VBS meeting last night, please pick up a volunteer form on the table in the foyer and complete it and return it to me or the church office to let us know where you are willing to help. There is something for everyone to do.Letís all do our part to help make our 2011 VBS a great one!

REQUESTING PRAYERS

Jon Merritt responded to the Lordís invitation last Sunday morning. In his own words, Jon explained, ďI know itís hard to live a Christian life each day.My faith in God and patience have been tested.I know I havenít been living the way God would have me to live.Iím asking that God will forgive me for my sin. That He will grant me guidance, strength and patience. That I will grow stronger and do the works in the church.ĒWe commend Jon for having the humility and courage to publicly renew his commitment to the Lord. Please keep him in your prayers.

THANK YOU

To my church family, thank you so much for your concern and encouragement given to me and my family during my sister Pat Westís long illness and subsequent death. Also for the kind words, songs, phone calls, and cards.Especially Robert and Jim Pettyjohn and Dale Beard who conducted the service in Shawnee. After two funerals in 48 hours, one being out of state, needless to say when I returned home Tuesday evening I was emotionally drained and exhausted. When I checked the mail, there were at least twenty sympathy cards waiting for me.I sat in the living room and read each one of them.It was like being wrapped in a blanket of condolence. In the future, each time I send a card, I will remember it is not ďjust a card.Ē †††††††††Ruby and Carl Holt & Family

Thank you for all your prayers, cards, and visits during my recent illness.Itís nice to have Christian friends that care.†††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††† John Aylor
