Bulletin for Sunday 05/08/2011
With Robert Prater
In my article last week I talked about our upcoming summer VBS. This week let’s talk church camp. Central’s session at Burnt Cabin is now less than six weeks away. June 12-18 is the date of our camp week. Please pick up a camp application in the foyer, youth house, youth bulletin board or you can go online and download a copy from: www.burntcabinyouth.com or call our church office and we will mail you a copy. Camp is for all young people from the 3rd through the 12th grade (ages 9-18).
I’m anticipating another great year of study in God’s Word. I’m very excited about this year’s theme. It’s going to be an adventure of a lifetime! Our theme Man vs. World – The Prodigal Son. Many kids today think the prodigal had a good idea – they decide to take a vacation from God. They want to “experience” sin – once, just to see what it feels like. After all, “You’re only young once, right?” “I’ll come back to God,” they say, “I’ll repent, and start all over. No harm. No foul.” Don’t be fooled. This is a plan straight from the devil’s playbook. These lessons will not only teach them why not to be a prodigal, but if they have become one, repent and come back home to God.
Please encourage your children, grandchildren, and their friends to attend. A week at summer church camp can have a powerful lifelong influence on the spiritual lives of our children. So don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity to go to church camp and experience Christian fellowship and the love of Christ in the midst of God’s creation. --Robert – (robprater@sbcglobal..net) (www.preacherprater.blogspot.com)

CONTRIBUTION FOR TORNADO VICTIMS
The elders have decided to contribute the entire offering on this coming Sunday, May 8, to help those who have lost so much due to the recent devastating tornadoes in the southern states. We are currently in contact with several congregations and brotherhood disaster relief efforts in that area to which we can send these funds. Let’s all prayerfully plan to participate in this special contribution on Sunday. Remember God loves the cheerful giver. (2 Cor. 9:7) If you would like to contribute but cannot participate on Sunday, make checks payable to the Central Church of Christ, write “Tornado Victims Relief” on the memo line and give to one of our elders or mail to the church office. Thank you for your generosity and support.
MEN’S BREAKFAST FELLOWSHIP
All the young men and men of the Central congregation are invited to a Men’s breakfast fellowship on Saturday morning, May 14 at 8:00 a.m. at the home of Joe Curtis. We’ll be enjoying a great time outside with breakfast, a devotional, and shooting clay targets. More info is on the sign-up sheet in the foyer.

The Sonshine Sisters brought a lot of sunshine inside with their annual Ladies Appreciation Luncheon this past Sunday after morning service. The salads were delicious, and the tables as always were so elegantly decorated. The Centralaires Quartet [Dale Beard, Frank Burton, Dwyane Dennis, & Ron Taffe] did a fine job of entertaining. We all enjoyed it very much Central Ladies

Nadine Magee is now in room 31 at Golden Rule Home.
The pathology report for Jim and Cathy Pettyjohn’s grandson, Afton Martin, indicates that he did have a malignancy. Even so, they are encouraged that the surgery was very successful in removing it, and minimal treatment, if any, may be required.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT DEVOTIONALS
Starting next Wednesday evening, once again we’ll have a number of men give the devotional talks and offer the invitation during the summer months. If you previously participated, we will assume you would like to do so again and leave your name in the rotation. The schedule of men each week will appear in the serving list of the bulletin. If you would like to add your name to the list, remove your name from the list, request a specific date, please contact Craig McKnight or Michael Michener.

THREE KINDS OF GIVING
“There are three kinds of giving”: grudge giving, duty giving and thanksgiving. Grudge giving says, ‘I have to’; duty giving says, ‘I ought to’; and thanksgiving says, ‘I want to.’ The latter comes from a full heart. Thanksgiving is an open gate into the love of God.” -Robert N. Rodenmayer
