Bulletin for Sunday 06/12/2011
1920 Vesta A. Mays 2011
We extend our loving sympathy to the family and all the many friends of Vesta Mays. Vesta departed this life on Friday of last week, and funeral services were to be conducted by Dwyane Dennis on Tuesday afternoon. Before her illness, Vesta was a powerful force for good in our congregation – always looking for ways to be of service to others. She was active in visitation, serving food at funerals and always blessing us with her wonderful smile. We miss Vesta.
We also extend our heartfelt sympathy to Dena Nipper in the recent loss of her dad, Carl Montia Robbins. Mr. Robbins passed away on May 31, and funeral services were conducted at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel on Monday afternoon.

School is out and the weather is hot! That means summer is about to get crazy around here! There will be a lot going on. Be sure and stay informed with the Youth News section of the bulletin each week. Matt Stephens is working with our youth this summer (also helped by Nathan Kelly) and will have lots of fun and spiritually uplifting events planned. We are so blessed to have both of these Central “homegrown” guys and the great Christian role models they are. We are so incredibly thankful for all those Central parents, grandparents, and members who are stepping up and being involved in our youth program.
Which brings us to Burnt Cabin. This Sunday our week of church camp begins. I am so incredibly grateful for all the support from the Central congregation for our camp week. First, I appreciate so very much the elders and what they do to support and promote our camp week. Second, I am always completely indebted to Ann Bivins, our church secretary, for the incredible amount of hard work she does in helping me in preparation for camp (putting the camp books together, registration, and so much more). I’m thankful to both Anita Sharp and Matt Stephens for volunteering some time in helping put together the camp books.
Now, as always, I can’t really properly express my deep love and appreciation to all those going this year as counselors and staff – Denise Beard, Amber Curtis (our wonderful nurse), Joe Curtis (helping outdoor games), Lindsey Borcherding, Nathan Kelly, Michael Michener, Bob Perry, Maggie Prater, Bob and Janet Stephens, and Matt Stephens, and our cook’s helpers – Angie Gober, Tamie Perry, and Teresa Story. I am thankful for each of these who have dedicated a week of their lives to serve and spiritually encourage these young people.
I also want to thank all those members who so generously helped sponsor a child for camp. You have made an investment for the eternal well-being of the soul of a child. Once again I want to express my deep thanksgiving to the Sonshine Sisters and all those who donated supplies for the camper bags for all the kids. Friends without your involvement and generosity, our kids wouldn’t have this special week.
For over 50 years, God has been using Burnt Cabin Camp to His glory. Countless young people have been baptized or turned to the God of their salvation. So many more have come back on “fire” for the Lord and in His service in the Kingdom. Finally, we request that you keep us in your prayers throughout the week for the safety of every person. Most importantly, that all the kids will have a wonderful time and will draw closer to God and His Son Jesus the Christ.
The Central elders want to once again express to the congregation just how much they have been moved by the amount of compassion and generosity in contributing $14,252 on May 29 for immediate aid for tornado victims in Joplin and recently in Oklahoma. When taken with the previous special donation just a few weeks earlier to help tornado victims in the southern states, the Central congregation has poured out from their hearts nearly $30,000 in relief aid. Now, from this most recent offering, $6,000 has been sent to the 26th and Connecticut congregation in Joplin, Missouri. They are helping coordinate relief effort in their community. To date, they have served over 150 families both in their congregation and community with various disaster relief assistance. Their building was damaged and is unusable at this time. (They are presently worshipping at a local hotel). Now, the additional remaining funds (approximately $8,000) will be allocated to various congregations in Oklahoma whom we are currently in contact with about assisting in their relief work. And if any funds are remaining still, these would be sent once again to the Church of Christ Disaster Relief located in Nashville, TN which is working through local congregations that have been recently hit by these tornadoes in Joplin and Oklahoma.
Carl Wills remains in Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation at Baptist Hospital He is in room 838 and improving.
Marcia Dennis has been at home recuperating from a bout with pneumonia.
Dorothy & Gene Norton are not doing well at home.
Jennifer Michener has requested prayers in behalf of her aunt, Rita Luye, who has recently learned that her cancer has returned.
To My Central Family:
Thank you so much for the study Bible and for the great senior reception last Sunday. A special thank you to Bob & Janet for all their hard work, not only for the reception, but for all their years of helping me in the youth activities. I could not have made it this far without all your prayers and support. In Christian Love, Chad Beard
Thanks to everyone for keeping me in their prayers and all the cards and food, visits, and calls of concern. This is truly a blessing to have such a wonderful church family. In Christian love, Jo & Barney Sneed
Words cannot adequately express how thankful we are for the outpouring of love extended to our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother, Elva Gill. We are thankful for the personal visits you made, your prayers on Mother’s behalf, the personal messages you sent, the flowers, and the wonderful meals you prepared and delivered to our home and that you served our family before the service. Thank you for your hugs and the tears you shed. You have blessed us all with your kindness and caring! In Christian love, Dale & Barbara Tucker & family Larry & Diane Gill
A special THANK YOU TO Anita Sharp and Matt Stephens in helping me put the Burnt Cabin Books together. It helped tremendously. Ann B.
