Bulletin for Sunday 10/23/2011
With Robert Prater
I recently ran across an article in a church bulletin I received titled, “Hymns of a Lukewarm Church.” The article is a kind of tongue-in-cheek reminder to all Christians that we need to give thoughtful consideration to the words of the songs we sing, for if the true intent of our hearts was really expressed the titles of the songs might be more like the following:
Above Average Is Thy Faithfulness
My Hope Is Built On Nothing Much
Amazing Grace, How Interesting the Sound
Blest Be the Tie That Doesn’t Cramp My Style
O How I Like Jesus
Pillow of Ages, Fluffed For Me
Just As I Pretend to Be
I Surrender Some
I’m Fairly Certain That My Redeemer Lives
There Is Scattered Cloudiness in My Soul Today
What an Acquaintance We Have In Jesus
When Peace, Like A Trickle
Where He Leads Me, I Will Consider Following
Have Thine Own Way, Lord (And I’ll Have Mine)
Sitting On The Premises
Take My Life, and Let Me Be
From Live Well, Laugh Often, Love Much
So friends, do our daily attitudes and actions tell a different story from what we sing in church on Sunday? “Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.” (Hebrews 13:15)
Hearts were greatly rejoicing with Curtis & Kim Jarrell as they were baptized into Christ this past Wednesday evening by Robert Prater after studying the Bible. Kim is the daughter of Janice Watson and the granddaughter of Betty Martin. The Jarrell’s are temporarily living at 101 Ken Del Dr. #4, Shawnee, 74804. Kim’s cell phone is (405) 788-5576. Please express your best wishes to the happy couple and give them a warm welcome into our church family.
We wish to congratulate Austin Beard and Alex Corn on being united in marriage this past Saturday at Burnt Cabin Youth Camp in Tahlequah where they first met. They will be at home at 201 W. 38th. St., Shawnee, OK 74804. Austin’s cell: 405-740-3264 & Alex: 918-519-2345.
We appreciate your concern for us during this challenge in our lives. Thank you so much for your prayers in our behalf and we request that you continue them. Bob continues to do as well as expected and we pray that he will continue to do so. Bob & Cleta Allen

EYES ON GOD
The move to our new home was very stressful on our puppy. As we sold our furniture and boxed up our belongings, he became increasingly anxious. When the big day came and the truck was packed, we took one last walk through the empty house. Unable to comprehend what was happening, our anxious dog stayed right at our feet. He could make no sense of his circumstances but trusted us to take care of him. During that traumatic time, he never let us out of his sight.
That reminds me of King Jehosphaphat’s prayer when a mighty enemy advanced against him and the situation was desperate. Jehoshaphat prayed, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you” (2 Chronicles 20:12 NRSV). God came through for his people that day, and he’ll come through for us, too, when all seems lost. Just stick close and keep your eyes on Him. - Kari Myers
It was a slow week with the youth, but it was exciting for the older ones. My life long friend, Austin Beard, married Alex Corn Beard, on the 15th. I was so happy for my friend. He has met a great girl who is perfect for him. I can’t wait to watch them grow in this new stage of their lives. It was even more exciting visiting Burnt Cabin, where their relationship started, and getting to see old friends Again. Congratulations Austin and Alex!
Also, this is lock-in week. Let’s not forget about it. Kyle is working hard to finish up on the planning. It should be really good. I can’t say I’m excited about staying up all night, but I’m excited for the opportunity we have to fellowship all night.
