BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST

Hearts were greatly rejoicing this past Thursday afternoon, November 17, as Georgia Lane was baptized into Christ for the remission of her sins.  Georgia is 83 years old and has lived in Shawnee for a number of years and attended when she was young with her mother at the Church of Christ at St. Louis near Macomb and later she had attended the 10th & Shawnee congregation.  Yet, she never had submitted to Christ and obeyed the gospel and this has weighed very heavily on her heart.  Georgia finally had the faith and courage to do what she had put off all this time.  Both Georgia and her daughter have been receiving our House to House/Heart to Heart paper in the mail.  They called the church office Thursday morning and after a brief discussion and visit with Robert, she was ready to obey the Lord.  What an incredible story about how it is never too late to come to Christ for salvation.  Georgia lives at 923 North Park, Shawnee 74801.  Her phone number is 275-0042.  Her daughter Jalana Hurst, who lives down the street, will be bringing her mother to worship at Central.  Please give Georgia a warm welcome into this church family (and also meet and greet Jalana), maybe even send her a note of encouragement or personal visit.

A Thankful Heart

This is of course Thanksgiving week and commercials are already pushing Christmas shopping on us.  But let’s clear our mind of all worldly distractions and focus the eyes of our hearts on giving thanks to God.  Let us enter into His gates with thanksgiving and enter into His courts with praise.  Let the fruit of our lips be an offering of thanksgiving this week. (Heb. 13:15).  We should always be thankful and glad for God’s goodness.  He deserves the first and best of our gratitude.  So we bring our thanksgiving offering to the foot of the throne and rejoice in the wonderful bounty of God’s blessing.

I am also greatly thankful for my Christian church family.  Though Paul had many corrective words for the saints at Corinth, he began his letter to them expressing his thankfulness for them through grace: “I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Cor. 1:4)  We are often moved to express gratitude for the grace God has shown us individually…..are we as likely to express it for the grace He has given to others?  The Lord has blessed us so richly as a church family here at Central.  I am thankful for each of you, my friends, my brothers and sisters in Christ, and my family.

BLESSINGS AND THANKSGIVING

No human counsel hath devised, nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things…..They are the gracious gifts of the most high God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy

It has seemed to me fit and proper that God should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged, as with one heart and one voice, by the whole American people….[it is] announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations are blessed whose God is the Lord….I do, therefore, invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens

National Day of Thanksgiving, Oct. 3, 1863

It is a blessing to live in a country with enough collective sense to actually pause and acknowledge God as the source of all blessings.  Thanksgiving is the only logical response of a people whose blessings are unparalleled.                      --Robert--

Hope to see you here Sunday!

THANK YOU

To the Coat Giveaway Organizers & Volunteers, I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you & let you know how much I truly appreciated the coats you gave my children.  I was really worried about how I was going to afford to buy coats for my 3 children this winter.  You answered the prayers of a very worried Mom!  You all are a blessing I can’t thank you enough!

                                          God bless, Kristy Miller

Dear Christian Family, Thank you so much for all the cards, calls, visits, and especially the prayers while I was in the hospital.  It’s a great blessing to have a caring group of Christians that show their love as God would have them do.  I’m still being monitored by the doctor for a time so would appreciate your prayers for a while longer.

Love all of you, James & Joan Reeves

(It was wonderful seeing James back in worship this past Sunday after an extended stay in the hospital)

Youth News
Nathan Kelly

As many of you know, last Sunday night the youth watched ‘The Passion of the Christ’.  The youth were full of mixed emotions.  They felt hatred, compassion, sadness, and they were scared at some points.  All in all they enjoyed the movie.  It really helped them to visualize it better.  It’s not always easy just reading it and trying to picture it.  So we were thankful the movie could help us out.  I want to say thank you to Trey Canard and Kyle Perry for helping me teach these lessons.  I know it helped me out.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

“I have never understood why anyone would roast the turkey and shuck the clams and crisp the croutons and shell the peas and candy the sweet potatoes and compote the cranberries and bake the pies and clear the table and wash the dishes and fall into bed exhausted when they could just as easily sit back and enjoy a hamburger or a pork sandwich.”                                            ~The Turkey

Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
