Bulletin for Sunday 04/22/2012

FRIENDS & FAMILY DAY
It’s almost here! Sunday is our Friends & Family Day. Mike Schroeder has served as the pulpit minister for the Blue Starr Church of Christ in Claremore for the past 16 years and will be our guest speaker. The theme will be “Getting Another Chance.” Are there second chances in life? Absolutely. Second chances are available for just about every aspect of life. Guess what? Our longsuffering God is a God of second chances, and third and forth and on they go. (cf. Lam. 3:23; Jonah 3:1; 2 Peter 3:9)
Please also remember the catered fellowship meal following Sunday morning worship in the Municipal Auditorium gym next door. It will be catered by Chicago Street Deli and will consist of ham, Chicken Tetrazzini, mashed potatoes, green beans, bread, and choice of cheese and carrot cakes. Keep in mind that Mike will be teaching all the adult classes on Sunday morning.
Friends, the work of the church is first and foremost the spreading of the gospel to all. And your invitation to a friend or family member is still the most effective means of reaching out to our community and our neighborhoods. “According to George Barna, half of adults are annoyed when a stranger tries to share his or her faith with them, but this same group is not annoyed when close friends, loving neighbors, or trusted associates have a spiritual conversation with them.” (William Peel and Walt Larimore, Going Public With You Faith, p. 57)
Will H. Houghton wrote a moving hymn, “Lead Me to Some Soul Today” in 1936. The words of this song ought to remind us of the overwhelming need to reach out to the lost and bring them to Christ Jesus our Lord:
Lead me to some soul today; O teach me, Lord just what to say; Friends of mine are lost in sin, and cannot find their way. Few there are those who seem to care, and few there are who pray; melt my heart and fill my life give me one soul today.”
What if the Lord has placed within you sphere of influence a soul that needs the saving blood of Jesus? What will you do? The Lord is depending on you to share the gospel with those you love.
A little over forty two years ago I was asked to serve as one of your elders of this congregation.
The greatest honor that can be bestowed on man, fortunately I had five men good men to serve with, John Hall, Floyd Perry, Herman Stout, Fred Bowers, and Elmo Kelly. Our preacher at that time was Richard Black.
Because of some health problems with myself and Dorothy I find it necessary to resign as one of your elders. We are fortunate again that we have five men [our present elders] to lead us as a congregation. Thank you again for letting me serve in this capacity. Gene Norton
