Bulletin for Sunday 05/06/2012
Please mark your calendars for Central’s Vacation Bible School this year for July 16-20. It will be once again in the evening time from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This year’s theme will be: Christian Olympics – Becoming a Spiritual Champion! Now the Olympics may be in London this coming August but they will also be at Central in July! In a world where sports reigns supreme, we need to be reminded about the most important competition history has ever seen, the Christian Olympics, otherwise known as the “Christian Race” that began about 2,000 years ago. We must have the same diligence as an Olympic athlete to be what God would have us to be as we run our “Christian race.” (cf. 1 Cor. 9:24-27; 2 Tim. 2:5; Heb. 12:1)
During our VBS we’ll be encouraging our little Christian “Olympians in Training” by studying some of the stories from the early Christians in the Book of Acts. These lessons will help them learn how we can be a spiritual champion for God!
Monday: Get Ready, Get Set. Saul encounters the living Christ and on the road to Damascus which leads to his conversion and the beginning of his Christian race. (Acts 9:1-22)
Tuesday: Have a Good Attitude. Paul and Silas singing hymns at midnight in prison. (Acts 16:16-34)
Wednesday: Quitters Never Win. Paul & Barnabas face difficulties & Paul is stoned and left for dead but continues to preach. (Acts 14:8-20)
Thursday: Receive Your Prize. Stephen is stoned but sees Jesus in a vision standing to welcome Him and receive his reward. (Acts 6:8-7:59)
Vacation Bible school depends on the wonderful Christian volunteers who sacrifice their time to make it the best it can be. We need teachers, helpers, builders, decorators, and so many other tasks. Please pick up a volunteer form on the table in the foyer, complete it and return it to me or the church office to let us know where you are willing to help. Let’s all do our part to help make our 2012 VBS another great success!
There was a cartoon that appeared one time in a newspaper showing a man and his wife who had retreated to the top of their house to escape a huge flood. The caption read, “The irritation of an eternal optimist,” as the woman was saying, “April showers bring May flowers.” May has all the appearances of really “blossoming” for us. There are wonderful opportunities and blessings. And Satan will make sure we have to deal with a few floods along the way too. Let’s all remember to keep marching forward for the Master!
Finally, it will be my pleasure next week to preach a Gospel Meeting for Willisville Church of Christ which is about 30 miles northeast of Texarkana, Arkansas-Texas. Cris May is the outstanding pulpit minister there. Cris and I are good friends and attended preaching school together while at Harding University and our two families have stayed close over the years. It will be good to be with fellow Christians who are actively and faithfully engaged in the work of the Lord. Please keep our family’s travel and my work there in your prayers. Lord willing, I look forward to being back in the pulpit and with you on Sunday, May 13 for Mother’s Day.
We were so pleased to have Ronnie & Colene Berry place membership with us this past Wednesday evening. They have been attending for several months now and want to join us in our work for the Lord. They had previously been members of the Lord’s church in Chandler, OK. Their address is 920472 S. 3430 Road, Chandler, OK 74834 and their phone is 405-258-0440. Please give them a very loving welcome to the Central family.
We express our sympathy to Kelsey Nipper and Matt Borcherding in the loss of their grandfather, Bill Borcherding. Funeral services were held Tuesday in Jacktown.
After our contribution of $14,165.55 our building fund balance is $79,877.15. We want to keep everyone informed on our building fund growth.
CHANGE OF ADDRESS
Royce & Kathy Peerson have moved to 1627 N. Pennsylvania. Please make this change in your membership directory.
We appreciate Joe Curtis and Ken Whittington for making a concrete pad to put our dumpster on. This will make it much easier for our trash to be picked up. Thanks guys!!
Royce Peerson has requested prayers in behalf of his brother, Andy, who is experiencing heart problems. Andy lives in Holdenville.
It was good to have Virginia Herrera, Nancy Irelan and Lola Mullinax in services Sunday after their illnesses. It is always wonderful to have Mariella Jacobs.
