SYMPATHY
1918          HERMAN GUIN          2012

We extend our loving sympathy to Ruth and Steve Guin in the loss of Herman on Thursday of last week.  Herman lived a long, happy, and useful life in the service of Christ and His Kingdom.  Sixty-five of his 94 years were devoted to his marriage to Ruth, and he served as a deacon at Central for close to 50 years.  His devotion to the Lord and service to the members at Central are deeply appreciated.  Services were conducted at Walker Funeral Service Chapel by Dwyane Dennis on Monday of this week.

AMONG FRIENDS
With Robert Prater

Central’s 2012 Vacation Bible School is now less than three weeks away!  The dates of VBS are July 16-20.  This year’s theme is Christian Olympics – Becoming a Spiritual Champion!  During our VBS we’ll be encouraging our little Christian “Olympians in Training” by studying some of the stories from the early Christians in the Book of Acts.  These lessons will help them learn how we can be a spiritual champion for God!

This is always a great week of study and outreach for the Central church.  We are having a nighttime VBS once again this year and it will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each evening at the building and will culminate with our special Friday Night Open House program.  We still could use MORE workers and volunteers!  Let myself or Maggie know if you are willing to help out.  A lot of time and resources go into a week of Vacation Bible School.  I think VBS is worth every penny and hour spent because of the seeds of faith that we plant.  Please keep this week and the children in your prayers.

A popular philosophy in our culture today is pluralism—the belief that individuals have a right to believe what they want to believe, and no person has the right to tell them they are wrong. Closely related to this mind-set is moral relativism, the view that nothing is absolutely right or wrong.  What is morally wrong for you may be right for me, or vice versa.  “Everybody is right and nobody is wrong” may be politically correct, but it does not square with truth and reality.  God is truth and His absolute standard of right and wrong is revealed in the Bible, the source of all spiritual truth (John 17:17).

Truth is narrow in any realm. The historical truth that George Washington was the first president of the United States is not a matter of interpretation. The scientific truth that water is a compound of hydrogen and oxygen is not open for discussion. In the same way religious truth is also narrow.  That Jesus is the only way to heaven excludes other religions that exclude Jesus as the Savior. (John 14:6)

The recognition that there is true worship based on God’s Word implies that there is false worship, based on man’s traditions, that is unacceptable to the Lord. (Matt. 15:9; John 4:24)  The view that a person can be saved before and without baptism may play well in the religious world but falls short of the truth of Scripture.  (Acts 2:38; 22:16; 1 Pt. 3:21)

The truth can be known by those with honest hearts who are willing to do God’s will before they know it (Luke 8:15; John 7:17). Only those who love, believe, and obey the truth will find salvation and heaven.  (2 Thess. 2:10; Heb. 5:9; I Pet. 1:22)

Youth News
Nathan Kelly

You’re only as strong as those around you.  I found that out this past week with the youth rally we held.  I had great people helping me make it a success.  I want to thank all the ladies who prepared the food.  I want to give a special thank you to Lysa Park for organizing it and to Bob Stephens for coming up with an activity when my original plan fell through.  We finished a busy week and I hope to keep the kids busy and active the rest of the summer.
