Bulletin for Sunday 09/02/2012
With Robert Prater
It was good to be on the campus of Oklahoma Christian University on Monday and watch as Dr. John deSteiguer became the seventh President of OC. Maggie and I became acquainted with John and his wife Darla and his wonderful parents back while we were students at NSU in Tahlequah and members at South College. John was such an encouragement to me when I served as an intern in the campus ministry. Their daughter Abby was the flower girl in our wedding. They are genuine, dedicated Christian people who love the Lord and His church. I believe he will be a great president at OC. I’m confident he’ll work to continue to strengthen OC’s relationship with the body of Christ. May God’s richest blessings be on OC during this exciting new period of leadership
With the upcoming Labor Day weekend summer has come to an end. It’s a time of transition out of the summer season and into fall. Yes, autumn is just around the corner with the promise of cooler weather and falling leaves. Our God has blessed us in so many ways. Seasons come, seasons go, but God is faithful in every season. God is faithful in every season, even as the leaves fall. “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease.” (Genesis 8:22) In every situation and season, God is faithful. (cf. 1 Cor. 1:9) The times may change, but He is changeless. (cf. Heb. 6:17-19; Titus 1:2)
Now, thinking about this, it is a good time for all of us to do some personal soul searching. Am I faithful? How is my commitment to the Lord evidenced? Can I do better? Do I need to work harder at growing spiritually and becoming an integral part of the work of the church? Considering my talents and resources, am I the good steward God deserves? Think. Be honest. Act.

Thank you for the uplifting memorial service your minister [Robert Prater] performed for my father, Neil Gwaltney. The music was perfect, the message was uplifting, and your church is so beautiful. I have rarely left a memorial service feeling better than when I arrived, but that was certainly the case. I am filled with gratitude for your giving of your time, effort and resources. Sincerely, John & Julie Briscoe

LABOR DAY REFLECTIONS
Labor Day brings to mind picnics, cookouts and family gatherings. Falling on the first Monday in September, it marks the unofficial end of summer and the beginning of a new school year. But the holiday was created in 1882 to honor the social and economic contributions of American workers.
In a strong economy, it’s easy to take for granted the ability to work and be paid well. But times have changed during the past few years, with many people still struggling with unemployment and underemployment.
During our holiday celebrations this year, let’s give thanks for the jobs we have, pray for those who aren’t as fortunate and offer words of encouragement or help to someone who needs it.
Hope to see you Sunday!
Have a safe holiday weekend
