WORSHIP GOD

As the book of Revelation opens, the apostle John had been banished to the island of Patmos “because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.”  On the Lord’s Day he received a revelation of Jesus Christ.  Marvelous indeed are the things which are told!  By the time one reaches the nineteenth chapter of the book an angel reveals to John some wonderful things about the marriage supper of the Lamb.  John then describes his reaction to the angel: “Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, ‘You must not do that!  I am a fellow servant with you and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus, Worship God.”

The call to “worship God” is heard repeatedly throughout the Bible, and believers have responded eagerly, both individually and corporately, because God is worthy of our praise and adoration.

Have you considered how all of us can enhance our corporate worship of God?

Be present.  You can’t fellowship an absentee.  Let us take sweet counsel together and walk “unto the house of God in company” (Psalm 55:14).  How beautiful is the picture of the early church in Jerusalem.  With one accord they met together.

Invite others.  The sincere heart seeks others to join him as did the psalmist, “O come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker!” (Psalm 95:6).

Be reverent.  “Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe” (Hebrews 12:28).

Be involved.  Don’t just go through the motions.  True worship must be done in spirit and in truth.  Participate by listening, singing, praying, partaking of the Lord’s Supper, and giving liberally.  Worship, which is worthy of the name, demands involvement.

“Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness” (1 Chronicles 6:29). John Gipson, North Little Rock

Youth News
Nathan Kelly

It was so great walking into the auditorium after Wednesday night class to see a full row taken up by the youth group after class.  It’s so great to see them wanting to sit by and hang out with each other.  It reminded me of back when I was in the youth group.  I was proud of them.  I would like to ask a special prayer for all those traveling to Rogers this weekend.  It’s a long drive and there are a lot of people going.  So keep us in your prayers and go ahead and let the kids know how proud you are of them of their work.  They are all doing a great job.

ARE WE THERE YET?

This age-old refrain of young travelers is followed by a second question: “How much longer?” How similar those queries are to the psalmist’s oft-repeated cry, “How long, O Lord, how long?” (Psalm 6:3b, NIV).

Patience is an uncommon virtue these days.  We’re anxious to get where we’re going or to get what we want.  But think how much we miss while wishing we were elsewhere!  In our rush to reach a destination, we fail to grasp lessons that can be learned only along the way.  What blessings might you be overlooking in the here-and-now, and the right-where-you-are?  --Kari Myers
