REQUESTING PRAYER

On Sunday morning, March 24, Darlene Todd requested the prayers of the church in her behalf.  She was seeking forgiveness of wrongs in her life and requesting your continuing prayers that she may become the person she knows God wants her to be and that she wants to be.  We deeply appreciate Darlene and her wonderful family.  Let’s show our support for them in every possible way and remember them often in our prayers.

IT’S A NEW DAY

I grew up with a young man who became a preacher.  He had an unusual gift.  He could read a sermon and the next day get in the pulpit and repeat it word for word.  Needless to say, that ability also helped him in school.  I envied that gift until he confessed that two or three days after the sermon, or test, he wouldn’t remember anything about what he had read or said.

Most of us can’t retain every word of what we read for two or three days, but we don’t have the disability of forgetting everything in such a short period of time.

It’s a new day, and a new year!  And while we might retain some of what we learned last year, it probably won’t hurt us to be reminded of things we have learned.  Someone has well said, “Anything ‘that goes without saying’ is in danger of being left unsaid.”

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, wrote to the exiles of the Dispersion.  In this letter he repeated a number of things he had taught them earlier.  They may have thought that he didn’t need to repeat himself, but he said: “Therefore I intend always to remind you of these things, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have.” (2 Peter 1:2)

Later Peter says, ‘This is now the second letter that I have written to you, beloved, and in both of them I have aroused your sincere mind by way of reminder,” (2 Peter 3:1).

It never hurts to be reminded.  In the yearning words of A. Catherine Hankey: “Tell me the old, old story, Of unseen things above, Of Jesus and His glory, Of Jesus and His love.”

Some things never grow old!  We long to hear them over and over, even though it is a new day.

 Youth News

 Nathan Kelly

Well we survived another trip to Rogers, Arkansas. It was another great trip. The kids were amazing, and all their hard work showed. I overheard someone there say, "For all those who think the church is dying, they should be [at LTC] and see how alive it really is." That pretty much sums up the weekend. A huge thanks to Michael and Jennifer Michener for heading it up for us again.

Reminder about the AWTG at Highland on
April 14. We will be attending class and church there in the morning, so be at the church building at 9:15 so we don't arrive late. Bring clothes to change into for the volleyball tournament afterwards too.

A BLESSED THOUGHT

Gratitude consists in a watchful, minute attention to the particulars of our state, and to the multitude of God’s gifts, taken one by one.  It fills us with a consciousness that God loves and cares for us, even to the least event and smallest need of life.

It is a blessed thought that from our childhood God has been laying his fatherly hands upon us, and always in benediction; that even the strokes of his hands are blessings, and among the chiefest we have ever received.  When this feeling is awakened, the heart beats with a pulse of thankfulness.
