GREAT FULL TO GOD
By Jimmy Hyde

It has been a great week so far. We are in the middle of VBS as I’m writing my article. This VBS is AWESOME.  I am extremely impressed with all of the investment that so many have given to our VBS. All the way from the decorations to class activities, and cookies; all of you have put so much time and effort into our VBS. I want to give a special thank you to Bob and Janet Stephens for taking the lead with VBS. Praise God for all of you that have given so much to make our VBS a great success. Please continue to pray for my family and I. We are still working to sell our house in Bartlesville, which means we have to be apart some of the time and travel back and forth. Just waiting on Him, God’s timing is perfect.

Dare to Be a Daniel

Our Vacation Bible School should be finishing up as you’re reading this article. It’s not too late to invite kids you know to join us. We will continue VBS every night from 6:30 to 8:30 ending Friday night the 19th.  Friday will be a special time for the whole family. We want to encourage all kids and their family to join us Friday for free food, fun, and talking about what we learned at VBS. Also, I will be teaching a class for adults on Wednesday night. Make sure you plan to join us as well as invite all of your friends and neighbors to this special time of Bible study.

Living While Looking

What does servants, virgins, and talents have to do with our Christian life? It’s all about preparing for our wedding day. The Lord Jesus our bride groom will one day be sent to take us home to be with Him for all eternity. Read Matt. 24:36-42;    43 – 25:30. We must live our Christian lives as if today could be the day of our wedding. Jesus could come right now. So you and I must always be ready. May we everyday heed the words of Jesus and “keep watch”. Live your lives always expecting that today may be the day.   "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.” Matt. 24:42 Continued… May we all KEEP WATCH as we live our lives and as we share our Christian lives together.

BUILDING FUND

As of July 17, 2013, the amount in the building fund account is $116,652.70.  Contributions toward this may be made at any time.  Give it to one of the elders and note on your check for ‘building fund’.

PRAYER CONCERNS

Babe Doyle remains in Colonial Estates Skilled Nursing, room 111.

Mary Jo Fleming has moved to Rose Manor, 1610 North Bryan, room 402.  They would appreciate your visits.

James Vanlandingham, brother to Burl Vanlandingham, was admitted to Oklahoma Heart Hospital, north, for treatment of an infection.  He is in room 322.

SECRETARIAL POSITION OPEN

We are searching for applicants interested in the secretarial position at Central.  This is five days a week, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., with paid five major holidays off.  Tasks include answering telephone, computer skills, accounting skills helpful, helping out elders, ministers or members when needed, etc..  Please let one of the elders know your desires as soon as possible.

RESIGNATION

I will be leaving the secretarial position at Central in another week to bring Bob home.  I will need to be with him 24/7.  The decision came sooner than we had expected but is a necessity.  We ask for your continued prayers and love.  I came to work 14 ½ years ago to fill Jearline’s retirement vacancy, after she had been secretary over 30 years. The time has flown by and I have enjoyed it all.  I am sure the next secretary will enjoy it as much.  You could not ask for a better place to spend your day or better people to spend it with.  If anyone would be interested in filling this position, please let one of the elders know.  Ann Bivins

Youth News
Nathan Kelly

Now I know I'm only writing this on Tuesday morning, but so far I've been very impressed with the youth group. There was a large group that stayed to help set up Sunday night. They had more help than normal. Monday night there were more teens there than I ever remember. Kylee and I counted, and there were about 30 altogether, members and guests. I just hope this keeps up and maybe people will have to sit on the floor in class. Now, your kid didn't tell you, we are going on a float trip August 28-29. We are actually floating the 29th. It'll cost $22.50 per person, unless your kid is 12 then its half the price. You'll need to bring a sack dinner for when we leave, which will be after evening worship. You'll need to pay me the money, and bring some money for lunch after we float.

In class  Sunday morning  we talked about hypocrisy. We talked a little bit about pretending. It fits for this week since the teens will be helping out with drama at least one day. There's a lot of pretending going on at VBS. As kids, there probably wasn't an hour that went by where we didn't pretend about something. It was a big part of our childhood. It's not acceptable anymore as we grow up, and it’s especially not acceptable as Christians. We can only get away with pretending for so long. The bad thing is that some have been pretending for so long that they don't know it anymore. So this week's challenge is to stop pretending (unless you're at VBS). Step out and be the real person you are. Don't be ashamed but be proud. I dare you! (I'm sorry, I couldn't help it with the VBS theme)

CONTINUING PRAYER CONCERNS

Bob Allen, Ruth Autrey, Chad Beard, Bob Bivins, Gary Brown (elder at Highland), Betty Caldwell (sister of Linda Carpenter)  Harold Carothers, Blake Carter (great grandson of Sue Merritt), Sherri Collins, Norma Cowden, Robert Donaldson (Vivian Cross’s brother) Babe Doyle,  Norma Edgmon, Dave Emery, Mary Jo Fleming, Fredith Hanifan, Norma Holt, (Carl Holt’s sister-in-law),  Louise Honaker, Mariella Jacobs, John Johnston, Jerry Lanier, (son of the late Lois Lanier) June Lawerance (mother of Bill Lawerance), Aubrey McNutt, Cindy Monday, (friend of Rita Romberg) Patti Morgan (niece of Burl Vanlandingham), Thearlene Morris, Gene & Dorothy Norton, Rachel O’Neal, Addyson & Savahnnah Paine, (twin  great grand-daughters of Wayne & Patti Spencer),  Andy Peerson (brother to Royce Peerson), Alice Rice, Sue Riedel, Naomi Rutledge, Rhetta Smith, Sarah Smith, Dorothy Strickland, John Sullivan, Jenni Tennery (Leona Smith’s granddaughter), Emma White, Iva  Williams (Mother of Cathy Rose) and Selene Williams (daughter of Craig & Michelle McKnight). All these members and friends have continuing health concerns or other special circumstances.  They appreciate your interest and prayers.

DWELL IN UNITY

Considering the staggering height of redwood trees, we assume they must need incredibly deep roots.  But these giants have extremely shallow roots, growing only 4 to 6 feet deep.  Instead of heading downward, the roots extend outward – spreading out as far as 125 feet.  Stability occurs because the roots intertwine with those of neighboring trees.  This network allows redwoods to stand tall despite strong winds and storms.  In a similar way, such interconnectedness keeps the body of Christ standing strong. Psalm 133:1 urges believers to “dwell in unity” (ESV).  In order to inhabit one another’s lives, we must share our stories, offer forgiveness and provide encouragement.  Through those actions, our roots spread wide as we support our brothers and sisters in Christ.
