Bulletin for Sunday 08/18/2013
By Jimmy Hyde
First and most important we have a new sister in Christ Maddie Curtis. She obeyed the Gospel and was baptized by her father, Joe Curtis last Sunday night. Make sure you give her a hug and welcome her to the body of Christ. Summer is officially over now, school has begun for just about everyone. Let’s all be in prayer for our families with kids as they get back into the school routine. God is good. The Hyde home is in contract. Thank you for all of your prayers on behalf of my family and our home. We are now in full swing on looking for a home here in Shawnee.
A Big THANK YOU
I know we have many of our church family working hard in many different ministries and getting the work done around our church building. I want to focus a little on a group of men who have been putting in some extra work lately. I want to give a big thank you to Scott Perry for researching, buying, and installing our new computer for the auditorium. We also want to thank Ron Taffe and Michael Michener for all of their work on upgrading our computers in the secretary’s office and Dwyane’s office. Thank you men for all of your work with the computers, it really helps make our work easier.
Go Ahead, Taste It!
We all have had those times in our lives where we are faced with the pressure to eat something new. When was the last time you heard someone say to you; “Just try it.”? Sometimes we try to use our other senses to evaluate whether this new food will taste good or not. Does it look like it would taste good? Does it smell good? You never know until you taste it, do you? I know there have been times I have tried foods that looked and smelled like they would taste terrible, but it actually tasted really good.
“The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. Fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.” Ps 34:7-14 NIV
May we trust in the Lord as he calls us to do things we’ve never done before. Let’s work to taste and see His goodness.

For those who weren’t at church Sunday night, I am proud to inform you that Maddie Curtis was baptized. It’s obvious to say that we all are rejoicing with the Curtis family. It was a big decision she made and at a great time in her life. She’s just starting a new school year and now she’s starting the school year with a new purpose. It made Kylee and me upset that we weren’t in Shawnee to celebrate with her. We are all proud of you Maddie!
Like I just mentioned, school will have started for all the teens by the time you read this. School provides many distractions, whether it be homework, extracurricular activities, or even just social life. That’s always been a challenge, but I feel like it’s even more so today. Teachers seem to give more homework and coaches/instructors keep asking for more and more time from the kids. Social life seems to be the only constant there. My prayer this week and this school year is that our youth group won’t let these things interfere with their spiritual life. Matthew reminds us of this in Matthew 6:24. We cannot serve two masters.
We know it’s hot and muggy right now and you’re not thinking about coats… BUT, the coat giveaway is 3 months away on Saturday, November 9th. If you are a garage sale person or a bargain shopper, please be sure to check for coats. Sizes needed are elementary age boys and girls 8—16 and teen 12—2XX. This year we are asking for NO BLANKETS or CLOTHING because those items take up precious space. This is our 12th give-away, let’s make it our best and reach those souls who need Christ. Thank you, Ron & Debbie Taffe
Pass on a blessing this week!
